Turn 35 - 3 January 1941

There was quite a bit of research coming to fruition - but did not make a note of it as each report came up. I will to go through to make sure I have units upgraded. I will also need to consider further research expenditure vs upgrades.

Edit: Yes I am missing something. The Supply value where this unit is is only two. However the unit to the south is in a supply zone of 5 and I can upgrade - its just that there was no illumination to show this.

Thanks for the update. [:)]

With Infantry Weapons, it will be possible providing you have the MPPs, the unit hasn't moved/fought, it has a supply value of 5 or more, and it isn't adjacent to the enemy.

The upgrade-rules are very punishing for China with my play-style, I must say.

With the lackof troops, it is hard to rotate units away from the front to upgrade them because I defend in a long front and not in pockets.
And with all the mountains and so few roads, it is hard to have all units in supply 5 or more because I use the terrain to my advantage.

Maybe I have to change my play-style until I get infantry level 2 and everything is upgraded, because my Chinees troops always get hammered with my current play-style :(

Mmmmm the Chinese are stretched to breaking point now. I need to re-garrison Changsha - but the only available full strength unit is I Corps - and that hasn't been upgraded. I have little choice. I can't let Changsha fall to the Japanese and so move the corps into the city and forego upgrade.

The Chinese spend the remainder of their MPP on upgrading some units in the north and central theatres.

Turn 35 - 3 January 1941

With the CW I upgrade my infantry in the Middle East and the UK. I continue to try and bring Canadian, South African and Engineer reinforcements to the UK/North Africa.

I do nothing with the US and USSR to build up their MPP

Axis raiders at large - but without too much affect.

Turn 36 - 17 January 1941

The Chinese are increasingly under the cosh in the south. I think the prudent thing would be to evacuate Changsha..... but I refuse to do so, despite I Corps being reduced to just one point.

Bulgaria join the Axis.

Tons more movement of troops in the east....

Turn 37 - 31 January 1941

I reinforce and upgrade where I can in China, but the fact is the units in the south aren't going to survive much more of this....

The Royal Navy gets a battleship and the Soviets get a cavalry corps - which I place in the south.

I spend one more turn saving MPP with the Soviets and US.

I've totally mucked up the British engineer unit - which is slowly making its way around the African coast....

All quiet once again on the convoy front

Turn 38 - 14 February 1941

China gets pounded part 286....

South of Chengchow, 12th Army is pushed back, while XXIII Corps in the city itself is badly mauled. Presumably the Japanese will look to assault the city from four sides....

To the south XIV Corps is badly hit and there is a distinct lack of replacements.... All units on the front line have been hit and are below strength - except the Garrison.

Apologies for the poor quality of this picture. I have no idea why pictures keep coming up as too large. It is only this game I get this and it's really annoying.

Turn 38 - 14 February 1941

The Regia Marina still live!

I sent a light cruiser squadron toward Malta and it was attacked by a submarine/heavy cruiser combination. The squadron managed to beat a withdrawal - albeit badly shot up.

There is a coup in Yugoslavia and I am faced with a decision. I think I can file this neatly in the no-brainer category! I say Yes.

Hi warspite, I remember I loved to read your AARs on the WiE forum back when that game came out. I sure will be reading up on this one once it will be continued. :)

Warspite, this AAR prompted me to start a game of my own as the Allies. Normally I play the Axis in games like this, on the assumption that the AI will have trouble handling the attacking side. But I'm finding much the same as you: the AI is pretty good at pressing an attack! As you're finding, China can be a pretty challenging theater for the Allied side. Also surprisingly entertaining. I'm now in January 1942. I might post an AAR once I'm done.

Anyway, thanks for a great thread!
