Experience climb from changing aircraft type?

Post by Dinglir »

I find that some Air Groups can gain experience within the same turn, simply by swithcing aircraft type.

1) Start a 1942 game with both Axis and Soviets as Human controlled
2) End Axis Turn
3) Create a new shAp Air Group with Su-2's as the Soviets.
4) Finish the Soviet turn
5) Finish the Axis turn
6) Note Experience of the Airgroup previously created (in my example it was Exp: 33)
7) Change the Aircraft type to Hurricane IIB
8) Note Experience of the Airgroup (in my example it was Exp: 39)

Conclusion: It is possible to gain experience on an air group simply by switching the aircraft type.

Is this as intended?

Quick question - did the airgroup fill up to its full complement with HurricaneIIB? In other words there were more HurricaneIIBs in the pool than the maximum size of the airgroup?

I do not remember - but as the air group is brand new, does it matter?

Clutching at straws a bit with my first question. I know you can artificially accelerate experience gain by choking replacements. So effectively the group gets more experienced as it gets smaller - as no new replacements are diluting the veterans. I wondered if there was some way this could happen with swaps, although I assumed not. Although it is a quite new group (1 turn old) it still has experience higher than a raw replacement I assume. But you are right just spitting out wild ideas on this one.

Can you duplicate the situation?

Can you duplicate the situation?

Yes, I have.

As you said until Step 8 where the experience went up to 35 ie only a 2 point gain.

And it filled up with 20 Hurricanes but 6 were damaged.

Did it twice more except used different aircraft than Hurricanes and got experience of 37 and 38.

I also checked 5 system generated swaps and upgrades.

None had an experience gain and the average loss was 3 points.

So if you have Admin points to burn, and you think the extra experience is worth it, do manual aircraft upgrades.

Shame you cannot upgrade those U2Vs thingies

Somrthing here I missed. If you change aircraft shouldn't experience go down with unfamilarity of the aircraft?

Absolutely - and by more than the two points mentioned in the manual when you are increasing the number of aircraft in the group at the same time. Which is why this increase seems to be a bug?

It is one of those things on my watchlist of want to know the answer. For one it could be exploited by anybody if true. If a bug I would like to know what to do to avoid it? I think it is too big to be forgotten.

Maybe it doesn't go the way it should. Up instead of down.
