Having fun modding the game by adding French units.

AMX-30B2, now with rollers!

Nice detail of tank graphic. Can't wait to see the airstrike from Mirage from AB.

AMX-30B2 has a torque converter that allows for five gears both forward and in reverse. Rule of thumb is to give 2/3 or slightly more of the forward max speed as driver would probably drive more carefully as he is essentially blind im reverse and need to rely on commander's directions.

In addition to the MBT, I've so far added:

Mystere IV [Ground attack]
Jaguar A [Ground attack]
AML-90/Lynx [Recon]
AMX-10P [APC]
M3 [ATGM]
VAB [ATGM]
VAB [APC]
ERC-90 [Recon]
AMX-VTT [APC]
AMX-DCA [AA]
Infantry and artillery.

- To my knowledge, the Mirage was not used in ground-attack, hence the Mystere/Jaguar.
- Thanks for the heads up on the reverse speed for the AMX. I'll adjust the speed. My knowledge of French vehicles is pretty limited and for some units, complete information is hard to get.

Some of the units:

It's certainly given me an appreciation for the amount of effort it has taken the artist(s) to produce the sprites. For a few vehicles, I've not been able to find a top-down view, so I've had to work from images of plastic kits and walk-around photos. You get there in the end, but it takes time!

Fortunately, most units use the same or similar hull to produce different variants. Today, I was able to pretty quickly put together a mortar carrier version of the AMX-VTT.

Yea Issue8 is super talented, and his sprites for the game are a thing of beauty.

I didn't realize Issue8 was the artist. He's done an excellent job!

This is likely my last units (Gazelle scout and AT versions). Thanks to all for the modding guides and advice.

Thanks!

The mod is pretty bare bones as I've been distracted by other projects, but there's enough in it to play around with. My original aim was just to see if I could mod the game and have enough toys to fight a battle. Some of the figures in the database may not be at all accurate, and it was created when the game first came out, so there is certainly room for improvement. But I thought I would share it now anyway and perhaps improve on it in the future.

Download the mod here: IronX AB France Mod

Have fun!

Funny, I get an "invalid default database checksum." The same error appeared when trying to load the default database after installing the mod as well.

For safety, I did copy the entire AB game to my SSD and it worked before applying the mod. I will try a fresh install, as Matrix can be funny when copying games to other drives.

In the package there's a folder that definitely should not be there: data\database\default. No files in this folder should be overwritten! It's the official database.

Ideally mods should not overwrite any files, because reverting them can be tricky. On the other hand, if you want to make a terrain graphics mod then some files must be replaced. I'm probably going to add a 'custom' folder in the graphics folder so in the future modified or new unit sprites can go there, for example files from Steam Workshop if we are going to support it.

That solved the problem - Thanks! The French units and graphics look quite good at 1990 era.
