Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics: Design Decisions.

In the screenshot below of Bootcamp 1, you'll notice the message that was prompted. This pops up on the turn after the civilians have been revealed (tip of the arrow).

In a number of scenarios, there will be civilians scattered around the map. These civilians can be for or against the unification. Unfortunately, the limitations of the game system prevent any units from being "Neutral" so they are either Side A or Side B.

In most cases, it will be best to avoid the civilians as they will most likely cost you Victory Points and/or Event Points.

In some cases, the civilians will play an active role in the scenario, but this will be explained in the scenario briefing.

Wow...?!?!?[&o]

Guess for sure I have to rethink how I've been playing CS. This is a far reaching game changer...[:)]

Yes, I was testing some new Lua attacks for the Viet Cong to see how they would do.

They did very well. HAHAHA

Jason- is it possible to have the Event that was triggered above be a variable? For example- "Choose to take Hill A" or "Choose to take Hill B".

Another tag on question- are Triggers placeable in the Editor? I haven't played with it much, honestly- but I'd like to after seeing the progress in the code. Really awesome stuff.

You can create a number of different events that are triggered by different things. I'm using some general battle plan guidelines. Battle Plan A, Battle Plan B, or some variations of them.

No, all the events are handled in the scenario Lua file.

This will require some basic coding knowledge, but since I'm new at this, I am hoping to be to assist those that want to tackle creating them by the time Vietnam is released.

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA GRAPHICS: Scenario Testing

Here is a screenshot from Bootcamp 3.

You can see B/1st/503rd has just landed at the base of Hill 978 and are about to trudge their way up the mountain to seize the hilltop. The Slicks that dropped them off are heading back to Dak To II while the gunships are flying overhead to provide support should it be required. I have plotted some artillery strikes on the hill to support my advance.

Campaign Series VIETNAM: ALPHA GRAPHICS: Scenario Testing

Here's a sample of the Event Engine at work, upon the successful capture of Hill 978, a notification pops up offering some encouragement and providing the next mission for B Company.

The graphics are really well done...but I find that the contour lines for ground level are not great in such a beautiful landscape. Should be better to have a variation in color at the base cell.

The event engine is really a major add on !!

The contours are an option that you can turn on or off, I usually play with them on to assist when I switch views to 2D.

Far too many changes of level...better to have the contour lines without the hex grid...

Well that's terrible timing. If you look at the top right of the screenshot, where the Unit List, you will see there is an L3 reference for the gunships. This means the helicopters are flying in the Low Flight Zone and have 3 turns remaining before I need to refuel. Hopefully I can deal with these Viet Cong before then.

Lost my gunship support as they had to return to Dak To II to refuel. B Company is waiting for the second Viet Cong assault, I saw movement in the trees last turn to the northwest.

After dealing with the Viet Cong attack, and having the gunships back from refueling, B Company continues the mission to LZ BRAVO
