From Wikipedia:

Bf110D3 Long-range Zerstörer (literally "destroyer", which is Luftwaffe-speak for heavy fighter) with lengthened tail for rescue dinghy. Either two wing-mounted 300 L (80 US gal) or 900 L (240 US gal) drop tanks could be fitted. Optional fitting of ETC 500 bombracks (impossible with 900 L drop tanks).

http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/bf110d3.html lists "range" for the D3 as 528 (statute?) miles. Could this mean combat radius? Wikipedia lists the C-4 version with a range of 1,500 miles. The D3 was supposed to be longer range so I am wondering if these numbers are valid.

The BF 110 D-3 range is highly related to the additional tanks.

Art and data for the Ki-90/Ju-90 is included in RHS Scenarios 125 and 129.

RHS comprehensive update 4.31

https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ap7XOIkiBuUwhZAU7bdtWbbscE_oLg

Aircraft slot 894

Art bitmaps slot 114

There is a flaw in the mask. Mifune is working on fixing it.

This aircraft was in fact well enough along in a proposed technology transfer
that the JAAF Ki-90 designation was assigned to it. But the conflict in Europe
caused Junkers to back out of it. In our non-strictly historical, Japan
Enhanced Scenarios, we assigned the project to Engineer Doctor Ernst Hoenkel,
who was residing in Japan at the time, supervising the building of an engine
factory which engine is suitable for the project, as well as an aircraft factory
for the He-100 (which, in the event, was not built - the engine factory ended up using
those German 1175 hp engines for Ki-61s eventually. Hoenkel also wanted to sell
the He-177, but although several versions were designed for two companies, Japan
wisely refused the original coupled engines. Half the projects had to wait too long
for more powerful engines. The other half took less time to redesign for four separate
engine mountings, but performance suffered, and it was still too long to win a production
award. The Navy G7 series and an Army H series of designs resulted. The He-177 was
probably the most technically advanced heavy bomber in the world at the time, but it
was messed up by the lack of a suitable high power engine, and a requirement it pretend
such a large aircraft could dive bomb (a tragic flaw if one really tried to fly it that
way). Hoenkel spent the late 30s in Japan, at Hitachi (a city as well as a company name).

The Ju-90 is a modified Ju-89, and it had also begun modification for Germany when Japan
became interested. Many bombers of the era were based on transport. The Hudson was in
fact the first mass produced aircraft in the world, a slightly modified Lockheed transport
plane.

The request was for a Ju-89 or Ju-90.

Both are four engine, pre war designs. See Warplanes of the Third Reich. The 89 was a transport.
The 90 was a variation intended to be a bomber. JAAF was interested in this and allocated the designation
Ki-90 where the 90 was taken directly from the German type number (before Japanese series had reached so
high a number). This pre-war project got shelved because Junkers was forced to devote more resources to
German projects when the European war began in 1939. One must rationalize how the design might be adapted
for Japanese production. I assign the task to Engineer Doctor Ernst Hoenkel who was residing in Japan
at the time and who was not able to sell his He-177 as such. [Several Japanese companies designed variations,
but none wanted the coupled engines - which was wise - and the time needed to develop either the four separate
engine versions or to wait for more powerful radial engines was too long, by which time there was no longer
a requirement for bomber projects].

I have no idea why a Ju-90 is not considered to be a Ju-90?

I have new Ki-90 art from Mifune - his first product in a couple of years. The Ki-90 is
the Ju-90 (historically) assigned a JAAF Ki number. It is on the filmstrip in RHS update 4.36.
