New Scenario: Exercise Open Gate

Post by butch4343 »

Folks

After watching the You Tube video of the RAFs Bucanneers carrying out mock attacks on RN ships off Gibraltar. I decided to attempt to create a scenario based on this and here they are. First the red side , comprising of the land based RAF units.

I hope you enjoy this short basic scenario

Nice little pair of scenarios here, straightforward to play but hard to master. It's easy sink or cripple the carrier and most of her escort, but very hard to do it without incurring in massive losses. As blue side is equally hard avoid significant losses in the carrier group (specially the first time since I did't see the two pronged attack coming and paid for it dearly, good move there). Also you employ non USA-USSR platforms, which is always a plus in my book.

Together they form a pretty good primer in low-level penetration tactics and counter-tactics.

That said there are a few issues mainly with the red side one:

- The patrol area of the blue group it not marqued in the map.

- There are no scenario duration specificied, related to this, the blue side one does have a totally excessive scenario duration of three days, 6 hours is enough for this mission.

- The event with the start-of-scenario message is marqued as repeteable, and the message appears again whenever you reload the scenario; which is an annoyance. This issue appears in both scenarios. Also the red-side message is a copy-paste of the briefing, it's nicer if you reword it a little like you did with the blue side message.

- There are no victory levels assigned to the scoring, and that alone it's a poor indication of how well or bad you did it since you aren't said what level of enemy casualities is required to consider the mission a success nor what level of own csualities is considered acceptable. This issue appear in both scenarios.

- I can see no purpose for the two Buccaneers in Australia, they appear to be part of some "old school" unit based random time trigger, but as far as I can see there aren't beign used for anything.

- I suppose this one is deliberate, but just to make sure: the ORBATs change between scenarios, playing Red you have a OECM plane absent when you play Blue, but you confront almost double the Harriers (ten when you play Red, six when you play Blue).

I think there are no more than this, thank you for your work.
