@Kristian
Just on the sidenote. Got as far as you on T1 on the way to Riga. Put all I could on the railhead there and couldn't get to take Riga (2 hexes occupied by Soviets at the end of T2). And quite honestly I don't understand how I got worse result on Riga [&:]
But no more OT from my side.

Impressive pace for ze Germans.

That's not horrible. It simply doesn't matter. Would have been bad on turn 1 or 2, but since then - it will happen sometimes. Much more importent is to keep momentum after crossing the Djnepr. Good luck!

I know it happens now and then. It is still horrible [:)]

But Søren proclaimed that if it had not happened he would have lost. I doubt it though - he is always so melodramatic [:D]

Well, it, of course, depends on how the Russian player is using his units.

If he masses everything possible at Riga I am not sure I could take in turn 2 either.

But Søren usually does not do that.

End of German turn 12

AGN are still trying to take Narva city but it is well defended, and supported by the Russian Navy. So progress is slow.
Pskov have been taking and the advance towards Novgorod in on. We expect a heavy Russian defense line along the Luga River.

The advance on Kohlm is going good and AGN is now about 20 km from the city.

Velikie Luki has been taking, but strong Russian forces are preventing a rapid advance towards Zap Dvina and on to Moscow.

AGC has met strong enemy forces west of Smolensk, so we are trying to flank them to the south and take Smolensk from that direction.

AGS has all but taken Kiev, and are advancing east of the city.

In the south Nikolayev have been taken, but strong Russian forces are blocking the way to Kherson, so the Germans are preparing an offensive in the blitz turn that comes on turn 13.

End of German turn 14

In Finland, reinforcements have arrived a week too late to save the 2 surrounded Moutain Division at the Rybachy Peninsula. The reinforcements are now trying to launch a counter-offensive.

AGN has not made much progress in crossing the Luga river at Narva.
But the advance on Luga and Novgorod are going well.

Kholm has been taken and the Germans are advancing towards Staraya Russa.
Only a little progress has been made towards Zap Dvina.

AGC is still advancing towards Smolensk from SW, and on Roslavl directly. A small pocket of 2 Russian divisions has been created around Chausy.
The advance east of Gomel is going ok.

AGS is advancing east of Kiev towards Kharkov. Further South Nikolayev has been taken and the next Russian nut to crack is around Kherson.

End of German turn 16

AGN have more or less stopped at the Luga River to prepare for an offensive later, over the river as they are expecting very heavy Russian defenses on the other side.

On the Southern side of the river, they are approaching the city of Luga.

West of Zap Dvina, the Germans have also been stopped by strong Russian forces. They are now resting and preparing a planned attack.

AGC has been stopped at Smolensk by strong Russian forces. The same applies west of Roslavl. But the Germans are planning an offensive between the two cities to break the line.

Further south AGC is still making good progress towards Bryansk. And now the sector has been reinforced by the Italians, by victory is certain!

AGS is still making good progress towards Kursk and Kharkov. The attack towards Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye are not as fast.

Kherson is heavily defended, and it has proved very difficult to cross the river and take the city. Here the Germans are also resting for a bit to launch an offensive to get across the river and take Kherson.

Incoming. Interrogative.
Kristian looking at the latest post of T16 I have a question: are/were the Soviet defences so strong on the Vielkiye Luki - Smolensk line? Since it's mid of August and Smolensk has not been reached I assume that the Soviets put much effort in stopping you in the AG Mitte frontline.
The other thing is: how is the southern flank of AG Süd faring? How do you use the Auxiliary there?

Many thanks and keep up the good work :)

Yes, he put strong forces there (Søren usually does that, as it is one of the main rail lines to Moscow). Just as he always put very strong forces behind the Luga River to prevent an attack on Leningrad.

That is why I have chosen to attack further south between Smolensk and Roslavl with AGC. There are also strong forces at that sector, but it appears that the sector is not defended in depth as much.

Any line can be broken by the German Panzers and enough artillery, but it requires a bit of preparation and supply.

The Romanians are performing poorly when on their own, but together with German units they are doing ok, and are thus very much valued.

The Hungarians (being more proficient) are doing great on their own. It is just to sad that they will be replaced with less proficient units when they reform their army :)

End of German turn 19

In turn 18 the Germans used a Chit to renew their offensive. They tried to cross the Luga river at Mschinskaya and managed to get across.

AGC launched an attack between Smolensk and Roslavl with good success. It was hoped that turn 19 would be a turn to exploit the successes of turn 18, but with a failed prof check on round 1 nothing was achieved and the attacks are now bogged down.

With increasing losses on the German side and heavy resistance on the rest of the frontline, it looks more and more unlikely that a decisive result will be achieved in 1941 and the German commander is in despair :)

End of German turn 20

AGN are trying to take Luga because the rail line to the German bridgehead north of the Luga river runs through that city. In bad terrain and with strong Russian forces the advance is slow but steady.

AGC is continuing the attack towards Vyazma, and are trying to envelop Smolensk at the same time. It is hoped that the Russian forces in the Smolensk area will either be surrounded or will have to withdraw to avoid that fate.

AGS is still driving towards Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, and the Crimean

End of German turn 22

AGN has taken Luga and rail supply can now reach the bridgehead that has been established over the Luga River around Mshinskaya.
AGN has started a new offensive over the Shelon River around Simsk on the Western bank of the Ilmen Lake. The objective is Novgorod.

AGC is still attacking towards Vyazma and is now 60 km from the city. AGC has also begun to encircle the Russian around Smolensk. The Russians will have to abandon the salient or risk being encircled. In either case, Smolensk should soon be in German hands.

AGS is still advancing on Kharkov and is now about 145 km from the city. Further south the Germans and the Romanians are struggling to get to Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye. It is expected that the Russians have a strong defensive line behind that part of the Dnepr river.

I made a gif of the first 24 turns. It is clear to see the blitzkrieg quickly gets bogged down, in the Russian hordes :)

End of German turn 24

The Finns realize that the Svir River is more or less undefended, so whatever German units are available in Finland are rushed to the scene in order to move across the River and threaten Leningrad from the rear. It will never be a serious threat as there are so few Germans, but it is hoped that it will at least force the Russian player to move a couple of divisions there. The attack is planned to start in turn 25.

AGN are at the gates of Novgorod.

The Russians have decided to abandon the Smolensk salient, so AGC has taken Smolensk. Even though the Russians avoided a full encirclement they lost quite a few units in their withdrawal.
AGC is now 42 km from Vyazma.

AGS is still advancing towards Kharkov and is now 84 km from the city. Further south AGS are closing in on Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye.
