Autocourse 2018/19 should arrive by the weekend - hussah. I hear the top 10 in controversial.... we shall see...
warspite1

[X(] Mmmmm, less controversial and more...well.... dumb. Fernando, great driver though he is, was not the second best driver last year. Sorry, that's just silly.

Arevaderchie Arrivabene. I can only guess it wasn't just the fans that did not like Ferrari's strategies last year.

There is a documentary on the Williams Team tonight - almost 2-hours long so I am really hopeful that this will prove worth watching.

This looks like it may have been shown previously on Netflix but I've never heard of it until now....

Sepp takes his new Ferrari for a spin. Also, Kimi will be driving for Alfa Romeo.

Everyone seems relaxed about the Mercedes in testing. I know this is testing and we don't know what teams are running what programs, what fuel loads etc, but all the same the Ferrari engined cars seem strong and I still think that Red Bull are going to be contenders this year - making McLaren's early bale-out from Honda look even more the wrong decision....

Mercedes advantage is a gearing issue in the first 3 gears. somehow they get a little more power in those gears than anyone else I saw last year. This gives a Grand Prix driver a heck of an advantage. If the other guys are figuring this out (and I'm sure they are, they have to be seeing what I was seeing and there are some SMART people there), it should get a lot more competitive soon. But this little trick must be a bear to get right. We are talking microns here.

And it certainly was. Thoroughly recommended as you don't need to be an F1 fan to get something out of this incredible story of not only Frank Williams but his late wife too.

Perhaps Mercedes read your post. Sepp's lead is down to 3 milliseconds.

Yes but as you know, that gap means nothing. Ferrari were not running at the time so different conditions applied and moreover, we don't know engine modes or fuel at the time.

The analysis done so far by the experts over the course of the 8-days of testing (and this is caveated for the same reasons as above) are that Ferrari are about half a second up on race pace....[:(]

Can Ferrari go an entire race? The car definitely has some issues. We'll know in 2 weeks. Chin up!

RIP Charlie Whiting.

1. Valtteri Bottas Mercedes
2. Lewis Hamilton Mercedes + 20,886
3. Max Verstappen Red Bull + 22,520
4. Sebastian Vettel Ferrari + 57,109
5. Charles Leclerc Ferrari + 58,230
6. Kevin Magnussen Haas + 87,156
7. Nico Hülkenberg Renault + 1
8. Kimi Räikkönen Alfa R. + 1
9. Lance Stroll Racing P + 1
10. Daniil Kvjat Toro R. + 1

Well well, a dominant Merc weekend as expected, but with a suprise winner. Well done Bottas after such a difficult last season, dominated the race with a fastest lap there as well.

Another suprise with Honda powered Red Bulls, seems they've got the upper hand on Ferraris.

Edit: and of course well dome Kimi, the Iceman is still around, despite the global warming and all, no sign of melting there!

LeClerc clearly could have passed Sepp, so is there going to be a changing of the guard?

Once again, tough luck for Danny Ric. Good sign for Kvyat.

A great race from Bottas. Lewis' race appears to have been compromised by the broken undertray - but this happened after Valtieri had passed him at the start.

Three battles I've really looked forward to over the winter:

The Hulk vs Dany Ric
It is I Leclerc vs Vettel
Nandos vs Sainz

Kvyat vs Albon and
Perez vs Stroll are also potentially interesting matches.

A great many questions will be asked about our 'accepted understanding' of the order of things if Leclerc beats Seb and The Hulk beats Riciardo.....

Just a word on Red Bull. Sorry but in my opinion there is no surprise here. Verstappen is a multiple WDC of the future, Adrian Newey is a genius, and all the signs last year were that Honda was starting to get its act together (McLaren what were you thinking???). Take those three things together and you have a mix that says Verstappen will win races this season without doubt.

The video is an amazing talk-thru by Valtteri about the steering mechanism:

https://www.popsci.com/f1-racing-steeri ... omplicated

“If I look at a qualifying lap from last year, they are making something like 50 gearshifts over the course of a qualifying lap, they are steering through 17 corners, they are making seven or eight changes of rotary switches over the course of the lap and of course they are feeding back the information they are seeing on the dash to us as well,” said Short.

It's going to be a looooong season [:(]

But well done to Leclerc - he is going to be something special, that seems certain.

Well done to Lewis and Mercedes. Three 1-2's and 2 poles out of 3. That is mightily impressive - and unexpected - after the pre-season tests.

Agreed, but not so well done to Ferrari management. Leclerc should have been given his chance.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?
