Helo refusing to follow orders

Post by milesjb »

I have a helo assigned to an ASW patrol mission. He’s attached to my SAG. A suspected Russian SAG is approaching, but it is not identified as such.
The helo is hovering some distance from the Skunk between my ships and it at 150’. I would like to increase my helo’s altitude and move it closer to the unidentified group of ships, but no matter what I do, I cannot make it move in any way. No matter what I do, it remains at 150’ and 0 kts. Can anyone tell me why it refuses any orders?

Does it have it's dipping sonar deployed?

You need to detach it from its mission 'u' and wait if the dipping sonar is deployed, once that is retrieved it will follow your commands

Ah ha ! I did detach it from the mission but didn’t think about the sonar. How long should it take to retrieve the sonar. The non- response by the helo seemed to last forever. I’ve got a saved game that I can go back and check and see if this was the problem.

If I recall correctly, your unit status screen will show someplace that the dipping sonar is deployed, and there is a deployment time associated with that field.

Well, I found the timer on the dipping sonar. Thanks. So ,I unassigned the helo from the ASW mission and it just kept dipping. The timer would run down and then immediately start over. Repetitively. It did stop when I gave it a RTB order. So, still a mystery as to how to get it to accept new orders.

Well, I seem to have overwritten the file and so far I haven't been able to reproduce it. If it happens again
I'll be sure to send it to you.
