USSR. Rail.

1. 1 of 2 blue factories in Moscow is dismantled and railed east to Tyuman.

2. The 4th Siberian corps is railed away from their garrison duties in Vladivostok to Irkush, for eventual deployment to the Soviet Front against the Nazi's.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #1.

Great Britain. Naval Air.

1. RN Beaufort to 4-box, Bay of Biscay.

2. RN Sunderland to 3-box, North Atlantic.

3. RN Sunderland to 4-box, Italian Coast.

RN. Bay of Biscay.

RN Swordfish reacts to 0-box. Great Britain has a 50/50 chance of finding the old German battleship but fail to do so.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #1.

Great Britain. Free French. Operation Leapfrog.

The British combine and French naval were taken in order to conduct Operation Leapfrog, which turns out is a flanking invasion of Palermo to be carried out by the Royal Marines corps and the 1st and 2nd British infantry divisions, recently rebuilt from their loss in establishing the initial British beachhead on Sicily.

British wargame planners put the success of this operation at somewhere between 70 to 85%, which is far from certain. So far so, that British wargame planners gave consideration to at least two other invasion sites, which were in the southeast corner of Sicily. Sites that gave much higher odds of getting ashore. However, the problem with these alternate sites was not getting, but staying ashore and being in position to make a real contribution to the conquest of Sicily.

While Operation Leapfrog is really a flanking invasion instead of a "leapfrog" invasion, the operation name was kept in order to confuse any axis spies who might have gotten wind of the operation through poor OPSEC on the British or French side.

Free French and RN Naval Moves.

(1) Free French Transport at Cagliari, loads the British Royal Marine corps on the Coast of Sicily and moves to the 3-box off the Italian Coast.

(2) 2 RN CV's, 2 BB's and 3 CA's move from Malta, 2 of the 3 CA's load the 1st and 2nd infantry division out of Sardinia and move to the 4-box off the Italian Coast.

(3) 8 Queen Elizabeth Class battleships sail from Malta to the 3-box off the Italian Coast. These forces join with 2 RN CV's, 1 BB and 1 CA already on station there from the end of last turn and the loaded French transport that just moved out there.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #1.

Great Britain. Palermo, Sicily. RAF.

The RAF do their bit for Operation Leapfrog, though at the cost of a lost group of Blenheim bomber, though mitigated by their aircrew surviving.

The RAF managed to disorganize the Italian 1st infantry division, which will contribute +1 to the attack, and the Italian tactical bomber, removing the threat of 3 defensive ground support factors.

Also, the RAF managed to turn away the two Italian fighter/bomber groups attempt to add defensive ground support to the Palermo defenders.

Now it's up to the Royal Navy and British army to finish the job that the RAF started.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #1.

Great Britain. Palermo, Sicily. Land Combat.

The RN provide massive bombardment support that adds 32 factors to the assault. With this naval support, +1 from the RAF and +2 from Alexander (HQ support) the army manages to get assault odds that have a 90% chance of succeeding. While high, and 5% greater than the far end of the 70 to 85% estimat provided by the British wargame planners, the 90% was still not certain and cause for a bit of "stomach churn" as the "dice were rolled". But, everything quickly settled and turn to cheer when an "18" was rolled.

The British capture Palermo, overrun an Italian bomber and fighter group and put all axis units on Sicily out of supply. For the axis it isn't about holding Sicily any more. The only objectives are to fight a delaying action and cause the allies as many casualties as possible.

Japan. Land Combat. Chinese communist. Another loss for the IJA against this defending stack. However, on the positive the IJA destroy an elite communist corps for the cost of a mot division.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike (1/5). The first of five designated ground strikes by the Euro-Axis goes well and leads to the overrun of the two surrounded (i.e., OOS) and now disorganized mot armies.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike (2/5). The second attempted ground strike by the Euro-axis is a disaster. The axis lose an Italian fighter group, aircrew and a Stuka bomber group. The Soviet fighter group that intercepted is forced to abort only after all the damage is done.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike (3/5). The third attempted ground strike sees an out classed Red Army fighter group force the escorting Luftwaffe fighter group to turn back (i.e., abort). The German Stuka bomber group never the less pushes on and gets through. However, all their bombs fall wide of the mark.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike (4/5). Another out classed Red Army fighter group again gets the jump on the Luftwaffe and forces the attacking German fighter/bomber group to abort their mission.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike (5/5). Wow a theme plays out in this series of ground strikes by the Euro-Axis. A third outclassed Soviet fighter ground forces the attacking Italian bomber group to turn back (i.e., abort). The Red fighters definitely won that series.

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Land Combat. A German tank army pushes on with their attack even though the Luftwaffe failed to successfully ground strike any of the units in the target hex. But before the land combat takes play another air to air battle between the Luftwaffe and the Red Air force takes place over the target hex. In a reversal from the ground strikes the Luftwaffe wins the air battle getting their bombers through and not allow any Soviet bombers to get through. Also, the Luftwaffe managed to down a Soviet bomber group.

However, a Soviet artillery division lends it's support to the defenders as does a Soviet HQ-I. The end result is that the combined Wehrmacht/SS tank attack is stopped cold when the Germans "roll a 4".

Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1942. Allied #3.

Weather. There was only a 10% that the fine weather would continue in the arctic (a good part of the Eastern Front) and a 30% chance that it would continue in the north temperate (rest of the Eastern Front). A major reason Germany's aggressive last impulse on that front.

With this weather most likely stopping things on the Eastern Front, this will be a good turn for the Euro-axis to take navals and/or combines. With that in mind, Great Britain will (most likely) take a naval to get their ASW escorts and patrols set.
