OT : The Russian 2nd Pacific Squadron - Voyage of the Damned

Post by pharmy »

One of my favorite 5 minute mini-naval lessons youtube site (Drachinifel) just released a quite long and amusing tale (probably a bit tall) of the voyage of the 2nd Pacific squadron of the Russian Navy to their doom at Tsushima. Quite possibly exaggerated, but if even 20% is true, Togo's victory was a foregone conclusion.

All in all I find the generally 5 minute long videos on this site a most effective use of my time on the toilet or when waiting for a turn of WITP or WITE get resolved

You should read:

The Tsar's Last Armada: The Epic Journey to the Battle of Tsushima
by Constantine Pleshakov

a good book, there are not too many on this topic, at least not in English

Thanks, just ordered it off Amazon, strange how UK customers can get the kindle version, whilst everybody else has to order an actual copy. Maybe should have registered again in the UK via a proxy.

Another English language book on the subject is The Fleet That Had To Die, by Richard Hough. Theirs is a rather extraordinary tale.
fair winds,
