Why on earth was the Shanghai MIL destroyed? That unit can never be rebuilt, while the INF can easily be rebuild. I really think the Chinese should have been asked about this.
warspite1

Why raise it in that way? I saw it was a MIL and so destroyed it as the cheaper unit. If that was the wrong decision then its nothing that can't be undone....

I apologize if my tone was incorrect. This is a very common decision the Chinese player has to make, and the answer is always save the Shanghai (and Peking and Canton) MILs.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

No problem Courtenay. It may be a common decision - but that is no help to someone whose mind - never the sharpest tool in the box at the best of times - suffers from increasing old age itis [:(]

In all fairness, if those units get shattered, it's pretty much the same result: they're out of play for pretty much the entire game. By the time you get the cities back and can place them as reinforcements, you don't even really need them anymore.

So are you saying there was no need to re-do that phase because whether destroyed or shattered the unit isn't coming back until Shanghai is Chinese once more?

Is the difference that if Shanghai becomes Chinese then, if shattered, it comes straight back at that point for no cost, but if destroyed it would need to be rebuilt first?

OK, yes, that is right. I so shattering the other unit is correct. I made a mistake. Killing the Shanghai MIL is correct, since the other unit comes back immediately. Somehow I did not see the shatter; I thought it was a 1/0 result. My mistake, and my sincere apologies.

Right so I've re-done again and AllenK now has both versions; MIL destroyed/INF Shattered and INF destroyed/MIL Shattered. He can use whichever he wants - but have suggested he uses the MIL destroyed so he gets the INF back for free next turn.

Yes to both questions. But it is all well and good that AllenK has both versions.

S/O 40 Allies 2

No DoW or alignments

Land: France, China.
Combined: The Rest.

CW sails a task force of 1 CV, 3 BB and 3 CA to North Sea 3-box. TRANS sails from Gib to Biscay 2-box and loads INF from Liverpool.

US recalls 2 CP's from 3 sea zones to port. 4 go back to San Diego. 2 go to Pearl.

USSR moves some units in Lithuania.

The Chinese make a couple of minor moves.

CW abandons Antwerp and moves Cape Town MIL to Kuala Lumpur.

The Yugoslavs abandon Zagreb and move up on Graziani.

The French make some adjustments to the lines.

CW debarks the INF in Biscay to Bayonne.

CW declares a combat in Malaya.

The Yugoslavs have a go a Graziani. Do the Axis wish to fly air support? The Germans can fly the He-115 C from Trieste or the He-111 from Vienna. The Italians could fly the Z.501 from La Spezia.

I land the flying boats back at La Spezia.

In Yugoslavia, the attack is at 3:2 +1. Do the Italians want to go for assault or blitz?
