After Action Report

Post by JoeyBlau »

HI I have played DCB a bit and finally achieved a good game as the germans. I've enjoyed other reports so I thought I would provide some info on it. This is all after the fact so no screenshots.

settings were difficult AI at a slow speed. Historical and no Geneva, but with easy mode on.

My strategy was to not wear out my infantry while exploiting the mobility of the PGs to the max.

AGN - usual attacks at the border. sent PG4 around north of Kunas and directly to Riga and Daugavaplis. 18th followed to Riga and the 16th cleared Kaunas and crossed the Dvina. AFter capture of Riga I left the 18th to mop up the many trapped units. PG4 moved south and got permission to cross the AG boundary. The 16th captured and gave up Ostrov while holding in the marshes to its south.

AGC - All hands surrounded Bialystok and captured it while PG2 invested Breast. Destroyed the Soviet 10th. Then PG3 went along the AG boundary while 9th went through Grodno and into the forest. PG3 helped clear around Kaunas and captured Vilnius and headed NE. PG2 went down the road to Minsk, and captured it while the 4th went into the marshes.

AGS - The 6th and 17th did the normal border pockets but held back a bit until PG1 was able to cut through north of Tarnopol and meet up with the Romainian 3rd East of there. This created a nice pocket. Likewise the 11th attacked towards Kishniev but allowed the Romanian divisions to retreat into the mountains. They were pushed by the soviet 9th. The R4th fought towards the Dniestr.

AGN - So parts PG4 held Riga and cleared up North of the Dvina while the 18th (slowly) cleared the pocket to Windau. The 16th held south of Ostrov and helped cleanup south of Daugavpils while the PG4 massed at the boundary.

AGC - PG3 went north of the forest and attacked toward Vitebesk while PG4 crossed and captured Polotsk. Tne 9th moved into the forests north of Minsk and went on the defensive while PG2 held the line of the Dnepr west of Mogilev. THe 4th moved towards Gomel but stopped when resistance was found and went to sustain offensive posture. It began to retreat slowly. Large number of soviet forces occupied the river line west of Gomel and west of Mogliev.

AGS - PG1's next goal was Vinnistsa and the soviet forces west of the Dniestr. . the 6th went and captured Zhitomyr, but held that while retreating back into the forests to the north. PG1 struck down the main road to Proskurow and there was plenty of fighting as soviet units retreated. The 11th was able to trap a good number west of the river, and took Kishinev and crossed the river. Next PG1 target: Kiev.

AGN - so the 18th is finally finished cleanup. It rests and switches to defense posture. and after takes over the Riga-Jakobstat line and pushes some troops to relieve the 16th. The 16th is defending the left flank of PG4 as it moves past the AG boundary and fights with PG3 to form a line on the upper reaches of the Dvina.

AGC - PG3 fights on the left flank tearing up some regular soviet armies with the help of PG4. PG2 holds the center while the 9th reorganizes. The 2nd arrives and is put into line between the PG and the 4th. Large numbers of soviet troops are arrayed south of the Minsk- Smolensk highway to Gomel. various small battles are fought.

AGS - The 17th and the 11th are pushing eastward.. The Romanians invest Odessa and the 11th scores a few nice pockets by itself by picking off conscripts pushed into that fight. Eventually, the 17th attains the line of the Bug. A nice move by PG1 both threatens Kiev while bouncing Cherkassy. The 6th retreats under pressure but holds Zhitomyr with assistance.

AGN - PG4 has to head north to help the 16th. the 18th is recovering at Riga.

AGC - PG3 is now able to move south to the highway and seizes Orsha. It fights its way below the highway as PG2 holds the center and the 2nd is able to cross the Dnepr through the marshes south of Mogilev. after another turn they link up a form a great pocket.

AGS - PG1 withdraws from near Kiev and crosses the Dnepr to the south and attacks some mobile troops. Substantial reserves are kept at Vinnista. The Rom 4th gets reorganized while the 11th pushes to the river. The 17th marches eastward to support PG1.

AGN - PG4 returns to AGN and attacks north of the marches towards Ostrov. Together with 16th they destroy an army.

AGC - massive battles kill and capture 100,000 soviet prisoners. Smashing defeat! 9th army, in defense posture.. moves up to protect Orsha line. New soviet forces are moving towards Polotsk.

AGS - PG1 crosses back over the river and encircles forces that have moved up the 17th attacks from the west and most soviet forces are cleared west of Kiev, which is captured the next turn!

AGN - by now large numbers of conscripts supported by regulars have faced off against 18th army. the 16th is exhausted and pretty much useless, but PG4 is able to cross over and fight its way to the coast, trapping 100,000 troops.

AGC - PG3 captures Smolensk, while soviet troops maneuvered to the north. 9th sets up a defense line while the 2nd moves south toward Gomel. The 4th has been retreating slowly and there are at least two armies in the marshes at this point. PG2 moves in the center and bounces Bryansk and tries Orel.

AGS - PG1 is given permission to cross boundaries and fights its way to Gomel. another large 100,000 man pocket is created. The 4th and the 6th clear the pocket while PG1 and PG2 fight off a strong counter-attack.

AGN - The pocket is crushed and PG4 prepares to move North. Afew turns later Narva is captured and PG4 prepares to attack Leningrad. (The Finns have been destroying the soviets and are at the border above Lennigrad). 16th is exhausted and due to supply problems, will never recover. The 18th is in better shape and moves south to cover their positions.

AGC - PG3 and PG2 attack south of the forests near Smolensk. 4th army reorganizes. 2nd consolidates.

AGS - PG1 supports right wing PG2 and also attacks Kursk from north of the river.. and captures it. 6th reorgs. everyone else form a defensive line.
