I've played a map that represents the WW2 combat theaters without the parts of the World that were not engaged in the fighting or had much potential to be.

The different theaters were connected with the loop jumps configured so that arrival/departure in each could be varied to many hexes and there was enough ocean to make the naval game interesting for escorted and intercepting convoys/taskforces.

Without the geography of the mundane areas the pertinent ones could be made much bigger. Now the visual effect will not represent the Earth arrangement as we know it, especially when viewing the strategic map.

I forget who did it......it may have been Big Al, correct me if I'm wrong.

excellent idea

Yes, I think that's right, Big Al made the Brute Force mod which had a European map and a Pacific one. It was really well done actually and he he was brought on board for Assault on Communism and Assault on Democracy, I think particularly to work on scenario AI? I've just checked the manual credits to see if he's still directly involved but under the heading it just says "to come".

I like the map as it is, it works very well with Hubert and Bill's stated design goals, but can definitely see a place for a larger one also but that would be like another game. I'm sure it will eventually come, whether as official content or community made.

Or Nupremal. Sure wish I knew what happened to those guys...

A bigger map would also allow for more naval units, I'll just note.

As a former War in the Pacific player, huge maps and long turns are not the least bit intimidating to me. I have StratCom Europe, and am looking at this World at War. But I too would like to see a larger map.

The map is fine. I was put off at first coming from WiE, but after my first game I realized it worked perfectly.

You have to adjust and start using "unit swap" with the Shift key a bit more, however. The AI uses swapping to great effect.

It does use swapping as do I [:)]

I'm glad the people like the game as is. Unfortunately, I am not one of them [:(].

I have completely finished one campaign, and started numerous others as both sides. But I get to a certain point where I just can't continue any more as I just feel way too constrained by both the time scale and map size.

Of the two the map scale is the worst constraint for me as the time scale can be modded (a big thanks to Hubert for that mod. I played a complete campaign using it with some additional changes to research and it did have a major impact on my enjoyment of the game [:)]) But not enough, unfortunately, to overcome the scale of the map.

My major issue with the map is that it does not do a good job of conveying the epic scale of WWII. Which was the same complaint the community had with the scale in the original War in the Pacific game. Which is why the map was made much bigger in the AE edition.

Whenever I look at the PTO in WaW, I feel that the entire Pacific is just just a bunch of land with a little bit of water around them.

Europe is just as bad but as others have mentioned, we were spoiled by the WiE map scale [:)]

So I have just stooped playing. Which is unfortunate as every other game that Fury has produced I played the hell out of. I am hopeful that WaW 2 or some DLC will suck me back in so I will just have to wait and see what happens.

In the meantime, I will just keep posting here and annoy everyone (apologies in advance Hubert and Bill [:)])

I have no idea if that is correct or not as I am not at home to check it out.

But assuming that is correct, it is that scale just for the PTO, not the entire world. Plus when you look at the AE map, you can instantly tell that it is a hella of a long way from HI to Oz (or anything else Eastward for that matter). I, at least, do not get that feeling with the WaW PTO map. The WaW map just feels way too cramped and constrained for me to enjoy the game.

One of the best modding options for SC World at War could be to do a Pacific War mod. Game editor is just great and with tons of modding possibilities. I myself have checked this by doing a mod of SC Europe at War that I will be releasing to the public when 1.16 is officially out.

Hi Titan,

Have you tried using the 'P' key to indicate where partisans will appear so that you can garrison these positions to prevent their arrival?

Well I checked out the War in the Pacific: AE map and its only about 270x200 hexes...

So...

The scale of WiTP:AE is 40 nautical miles (46 statute miles, 74 kilometres) per hex. At a map size of 270 x 200 hexes, that equals 10,800 nmi (12,429 mi, 20,002 km) by 8,000 nmi (9,206 mi, 14,816 km).

To put that into perspective, the Earth's circumference at the equator is about 21,638 nmi (24,901 mi, 40,074 km). The circumference at 30º latitude N/S is about 18,739 nmi (21,565 mi, 34,705 km), while the circumference at 50º latitude N/S is about 13,909 nmi (16,006 mi, 25,759 km).

To include a sea route to Murmansk or Archangel, and a sea route past Cape Horn, this would mean a global map stretching from a latitude of about 75º N to 60º S, a distance of about 8,087 nmi (9,307 mi, 14,978 km).

I was one of the people that took part in the scaling discussion. I prefer the WiE scale and calendar timing as I think it better represents the time distance challenges of European fluid mobile warfare.

However, The China theater was much less fluid. The Pacific Naval campaigns were very different from the Atlantic campaigns. Thus I think two different scales would work.

The developers did an excellent job of making the game engine work for WiE and WaW. However, in my view, it would be better to have two separate games with economics, politics, and land/air/sea units able to move between the two games. Then you might be able to have 4 players. A multiplayer game of SC has always been a desire of mine.

My thought is some combination of loop-jumps or just two different connected games. One game WiE and one the Pacific part of WaW just two-way connected. Reply if you are interested in my thought on how.

I would gladly pay for this game. After all I paid nearly $100 for World in Flames.

Got zero problem with more maps and such. But come on, this is a strategic scale game of the entire world. If you have a favorite arena or campaign, maybe you need to go tactical. Don't want this thing turning into Civilization of clicking and remembering.
