What ERA are you?

Post by 2clicks »

Hello,

After successfully losing many scenarios across all the different eras that this game covers I was thinking if people played mainly a certain era or conflict that they know or that their skills suit. I've had much more success in WW1 operations than WW2 and don't think I've made it far into any of the modern ones at all. Struggled with the Namibia one for example.

Especially how broad the game is it would be a shame, in my opinion, to stick to one folder as it were.

Interesting topic, should have deserved some replies already!

I am a WW1 nut in general so I fairly often play from that folder.

My second place must be modern settings, mainly Warsawp Pact vs NATO.

After that I'd have a hard time ranking the various WW2 theatres. Overall the Eastern Front holds more appeal I guess, and the few scenarios we have for the Pacific are also nice. It can be an exotic setting.

In order of preference which, of course, is also the order of play time. It's all WW2:

East Front
France 1940/Normandy/Bulge (West Front but focused)
The Med minus North Africa. (Again focused 43 and later)

Don't really care for any of the modern era and much of WWI is static so never played any.

My order of preference is
1. FITE2 (as the German player)
2. FITE2 (as the German player)
3. FITE2 (as the German player)

(And one day I will win a game) LOL.

With me it's the scale that's important ...

So...

1) FITE.....amazing MP experience with a good opponent

2) CFNA.....ditto

3) FITE 2 ....(haven't played it yet but it will happen when I am feeling brave!)

I enjoy scenarios where the game is under 30 turns. Short scenarios tend to have concentrated levels of action. I like that.

My favorite scenarios are those which are not dependent on historical events but are designed as “military problems” for the player(s) to solve.

If I were to choose my favorite era of conflict to model in TOAW, it would be Europe 1860-1890.

I think I'll just let the scenarios I've designed answer this:

Pre-WWI 4 (3 variants) & 1 in development
WWI 3 (1 variant)
WW II Asia 5
WW II East 1 (3 variants)
WW II Med 1 (5 variants)
WW II Misc 1 (1 variant)
WW II West 2 (1 variant)
NATO-WP 1

I have been playing WWII since this came out. Once I finish all of them, I am off to NATO scenarios!

There defintly seems a good mix. I mus5 say I've been trying to play stuff that isn't usually covered much in other games. I've just finished danzig corridor and really like that scale so I'll look for something similar.

I bought the game to play WWIII stuff, but then worked my way through a bunch of North Africa and Western Europe battles/campaigns.

I just fell in love with FITE2 recently.
D21 is my close second.
And a close third is "Pacific At War 1941-1945"
I'm playing all three of them as we speak and I have a "C3" game that's
about to start. Keeps me busy.

I have been semi retired for years! How else would I have time to play TOAW? Working would just get in the way.

I like late 1960s/early 1970s - no particular reason, just like that era.

I'm a sucker for anything using the 19th century database. After that, WW2 stuff.
