Assault on Singapore

Post by HansBolter »

I'm playing scenario #40, AndyMac's Ironman Nasty Ported to Babes.

The Ironman AI has fortified every major objective with massive stacks of LCUs.

On July 17th, 1945, 6,000+ assault value of British and Commonwealth troops crossed the straits from Johore Bahru while over 1,300 AV of British paras were dropped.

I made a mistake in sending the paras in at 3000 feet and lost 16 trasport planes to AA.

The paras were devastated, with 4 para fragments wiped out, but the troops crossing the straits arrived in very good shape and the enemy suffered considerably heigher casualties than the assaulting troops.

RE: Assault on Singapore

Post by HansBolter »

Didn't mean to post the entire combat report.....

Here is what the shape of the major combat units looks like with only one division heavily disrupted and fatigued:

Meant to paste that attachment in the body of the message.
See next panel.

I didn't try to get into the details of exactly how many transports of which type would be needed, but just allocated as many as I could to each unit.

As you can see all but the 14th LRP Brigade had the majority of their AV lifted.

I stood down the airlift after the initial drop turn and am moving the decimated para fragments back across the straits before I launch the next attack.

And if you noticed the first combat reported, I have an I-400 making a nuisance of itself off of San Diego.

Sierens bombed an AMc!

Hans - how long did it take to capture Singapore? Did you have to rotate troops in and out - other than the para's?

Anything else you would have done different?

I am launching a Singapore assault in Ironman soon.

Thanks!

This happened quite some time ago and you are taxing my memory. My game is at January 18th, 1946 now.

It did take some time to take the base at Singers.

I did rotate out heavily reduced units, but went in with sufficient force initially that I didn't need to rotate in fresh units.

Just waited for the beat up units to recover sufficiently to move them back in.

For some strange reason Kagoshima has been the toughest target for me to take.

I have had Kagoshima under siege for many months and have at least 8 battered divisions to show for my effort.

The front line has move all the way from Kyushu to Osaka, but Kagoshima is still in Japanese hands.
