Looks like it has only one gun. There may be other smaller ones. What about it's AA capabilities?

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like a slightly upgunned USCG "Cutter".

The resemblance is uncanny...[X(] But would the Type 21 be considered a "Third Generation" (whatever that means) ship platform in today's standards? You don't think the Iranian leadership might be playing up their force capability now, do you?

Sure it does. If it never leaves port (like most of the rest of their 'navy'), it would have unlimited fuel supply.

Reminds me of the story of the Texas rancher bragging about the size of his ranch to a native acquaintance: "I can climb in my truck and drive for five hours without leaving my property!" to which his friend replies "I had a truck like that once..."

The Iranian destroyer rather reminds me of a Perry class frigate...

When I saw there was a post from MakeeLearn about an "advanced" Iranian destroyer, part of me was expecting a picture like this. [:D]

You say we're surrounded?
Excellent!
That means we can attack in any direction.

Hi, The gun mount on that frigate (hull#76) is a Iranian copy of the Mk-76 oto Melara. The same gun I was trained on in USN (FFG 22 and 40) 76mm DP fires up to 80 rounds per minute

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

Depending on how good it's ASW is, it will cost just one torpedo to sink. [:)]

Interesting how they mask the radar antenna by putting it behind the lattice foremast. They do understand that stealth capability means that OTHER radars can't detect them, rather than them not detecting anything?

If radar is working you are not stealth anymore even with those so called low detectability ones.

I know that - I was just juxtaposing the stealth concept to things their radar should be detecting but are masked by the mast - i.e. they made everything ahead of them "stealthy". Could be a problem in the Strait of Hormuz on a foggy night.

Which is less expensive, a Mk. 48 / Mk. 48 ADCAP or a Mk. 84 / BLU-117? The thing will be spending a goodly chunk of its time pierside. [:)]
