How is the AI these days?

Post by ETF »

Just loaded the game in a few years. Trying out the AI for a little while my good friend loads on the files. Is the AI any good these days? I remember originally it was decent for a few of months if that. Is that correct still?

Thanks Gents

True, but keep in mind he said he wasn't able to do much with scenario 1 for the Japanese as their forces are rather limited.

Competent players will need to use Ironman series, particularly if you want to play the allies. As noted above, the limited IJ resources can cause the AI to fall apart quite rapidly as it cannot deal with lack of resources very well at all.

The AI is decent if you bring house rules to the gun fight.

What scenario do you play if you want to play as Japan?

My current game is AndyMac's IronMan Nasty ported to Babes (scenario 40).

I am in May of '45 with the AI still viable.

It is the first game in about 30 or 40 that I have even gotten to '44 let alone '45.

In many early games I was overly agressive and broke the AI.

I slow paced things this game and have followed a historical path.

The only carriers the AI has left are in drydock reparing from the shellacing they received at the Marianas.

I'm currently overunning an almost undefended PI, but the AI has massive stacks of troops and planes in every last base in the HI.

My invasion of the HI in late '45 and early '46 will be a bloodbath to remember.

I'm fighting KI-83s, KI-93s, KI-94s, Shindens and Japanese ME-262s and enjoying it immensely.

and btw, I did get a decisive AV in January of '45 but of course played on to enjoy every aspect of the late war experience that I can.

More like 800-900 sessions. [:D]

I'm on something like turn 1251.

Most weeknights I only get a single turn in and then get marathons in on the weekend when I can get in 6-8 turns per day.

This game provides endless hours of enjoyment.

I dabbled not long ago with War in the East and War in the West, but after getting addicted to playing every last day of the war one day at a time, the abstractions of weekly turns have almost no appeal.
