Stef and I have agreed to end this game. I do apologize again for the gamey stuff.

A shame, but I can see this was getting out of hand very quickly. Even acknowledging that some of your tactics were gamey, that was still a very impressive blitz. [X(] Much faster than I can do even against the AI.

What version are you playing? For when I tried to do the same in my game with Michael T I could only get 5 hexes from the existing rail-head before rail conversion stopped. also you are using empty HQ's as fuel depots, I thought that had been nerfed as well?
Manstein63

We are using the newest version delivered through Steam (1.09).

First you move FBD4 and then FBD2. FBD2 reaches Kaunas with 1 MP and is able to repair the rail line.

I pointed out the HQ gas station trick about 6-9 month ago before I went on a long break. Nothing has been fixed. You just have to watch the MP of the HQ you deliver fuel to. But that's not a problem in the center, at least not in this game.

I believe it was patched out. You could not switch units between HQ's for 2 turns.

Morveal must have turned it back on by mistake.

If you fill a HQ up one turn it will "bleed off" to a point forgot number the next so it was never really effective.

WitW has similar bug.

The real question is where does it bleed off too?

These are gimmicks that should be fixed. The HQ gas trick can be deadly and is a major flaw of the game. We all know that the logistics system is a mess.

Since you are playing the Axis, this is a clever innovation. Only Soviet players use gimmicks and exploits. [;)]

Russia clearly still is over powered in an expert players hands.

People forget MT and a dozen of other Russian experts were winning back in the day when all the fuel exploits were working.
They never lost record was like 100+ wins zero losses and the wins were very similar to this games front lines.

tm.asp?m=4095548&mpage=4&key=

Only a handful of German players were even able to take Leningrad.

The trouble the last year is there are allot of mid level skill players and only a handful of experts for all sides so getting a good game is very hard.
Most are blow outs for Russia or Germany.

All things being equal its still much easyer to win as Russia then Germany with or without fuel exploits

Nothing bleeds off and you know that since you only play the Germans.

For test purposes I filled an HQ with 1500 fuel and after 4 turns it still had the same amount in it. You can do great mischief with this.

I am fully aware that fuel is only one aspect of this game.

I know that the Russians are overpowered at the beginning of the game.

Turn 6

Odessa

Odessa falls on the first try. The three divisions retreat to the unoccupied hex.

.

Old post but catching up on my readings since moving in and vacation. Bear with me here :)

Why didnt he put an HQ, airbase and some junk combat unit with 1 str in the unoccupied hex? That way they would have routed to the Crimia instead of being herded.

Very impressive display Bozo [&o]
I'd like to see you play Axis Vs MichaelT. Would make for a good test of game balance.
ORIGINAL: STEF78
Can you explain how please?
What I usually do is place a weak regiment in each of the adjacent coastal hexes with two junk units on top. I think that would work although an uber gamer might be able to counter-counter-game my counter-gameyness :)

Hehe i should have read on,lol

Would the strategy I used in this game regarding HQ buildup still work with the newest version? I completely lost track of changes.

I do not think so, dropping fuel to HQs now supplies the HQ itself and its attached SUs, but does not create stocks in it. Also note Axis airbases do not raise air drop efficiency anymore in 1941.

The game was played before I got serious with WitE but from reading changelogs the HQBU mechanics were not changed since then (according to morvael supply mechanics will be changed considerably for the next, not yet unpublished update). The rail modifier has been reduced (it is now harder for the Axis) and the HQ BU cost has been increased massively.

Also, I think there were some nerfs for fuel exploits since then, for example regarding use of recon aircraft to draw fuel into army HQs.

If you play a new game please make an AAR :)

Bozo, I don't think that much has changed as the German supply due some under the hood changes also became more generous. Germans can still very easily reach the ground in the south you did by T6 in this game.
