Phantom Doctrine released... sooo tempting

Post by jack54 »

Phantom Doctrine has been released on GOG and Steam. Kind of like X-com meets the 'cold war'. $35.99 I don't mind the Price I just have a hard drive space phobia. 20 Gig storage. I don't know...[8|] It does look like fun though.

Wait a few weeks before buying it. A friend of mine has it on Steam. We played a couple of missions together and the combat system is seriously broken. The hit percentage, just to give an example, is 100% (even with a gun at very long range); your stats only reduce the damage. The LOS calculation is arbitrary, and you cannot preview it before firing. The big one is that the gameplay "encourages stealth" but if one of your agents is spotted then your whole team becomes immediately spotted too (we checked on Steam's forums: it really works that way).

My feel is that all these problems can be fixed, and there is a very good game lying beneath. However, I don't recommend to buy it in its current state.

I have it on my radar but will wait too.

If you like this style of gameplay, then keep an eye on Phoenix Point, from the original dev of the original X-Com. If the pre-alpha wasent so expensive I would have bought it already!

While checking out PD I noticed UnderRail on GOG 'daily sale' for $5.99. One day only the sales ends soon. Looks good; Turn based tactical combat and roleplaying with a theme similar to Fallout. Six bucks I'll try it...

Yeap, saw that too, but I already have some similar games. Good catch though!

Let´s hope it´s at least like JA-2 (Gold).
