Christmas presents? Set up two SCTF (1 Dutch, 1 British)to try and intercept the IJN CVLTF

Dutch SCTF 1 -- 4 CL. 4 DD
British SCTF -- 1 BC, 2 CL, 3 DD

There were 2 night encounters and two day encounters, but only three battles. I was surprise that the IJN had
as much ammo as it did as it had a few encounters with several transport TF over the two days prior.

Great move on that intercept!

Ryujo may have been split off into an escort TF but with a torpedo and that many shell hits and heavy fires I think she will sink soon. I wonder whether there were any secondary explosions of fuel or ammo?
It is also possible that her aircraft were able to fly to a Japanese base - not sure how close their nearest conquest would be at this point.

At any rate, send some subs to the area to stake out the routes between the intercept hex and a safe port for Ryujo! Good luck - you've earned it!

Working on it. Least damaged ship have returned to Soerabaja and rearmed.
Have sent them hunting. Patrol a/c 100% search night and day looking for direction of travel

Additional subs not already on patrol in Java Straits have been dispatched.

Two or three days ago I had one of the Dutch subs lay a mine fields in one of the narrow passages way to the east of Makassar

Something hit a mine but no indication of who. When the first battle between the ships occur on of th IJN CA was smoking

Boise/Houston with 4 or 5 Clemson IVO Makassar with react range set to 6

This IJN Tf steams up the west side of Java than down the Java strait when not ambushed

This game I sent POW to CT early for refit. Repulse should make it back to Soerabaja

Nearest bases would be Miri and Kuching. Guess I could do a reconnaissance of the two bases

kfsynder have you played Scn26 before? I have only played as far as May 42 before restarting

In all my games there are at least two IJN CVTF that will circles around Java and Bueno, sinking
ships and bombing air fields and off course shooting down a/c.

Very frustrating, as you don’t have the means to stop the destruction as was the case IRL

You may get lucky with an interception like I did but it can be costly.

Did you get all of the wanted troops evacuated from Singapore

This is my 2nd attempt at it. 1st attempt i restarted after losing the Lex by Midway on Dec 10th. I thought she was safe. I think from reading babes lite download page, this scn use's the stock AI. I know from playing stock scn#1 till aug 42?, that i ran into 2 cv groups around Java, one came from the north, the other from PH after the ivasion there. my game now, there is 1 cv/cvl sitting in the base's on the north coast of borneo, where the british base's are. they haave been there since about the 15th or so, game date. I have gotten most of the IND brgd's out of singer, although i did lose 1 to a surface group. my reason for pulling them out, was they were at 40 or so in training with good morale. I havent found a way to stop the Jap cv groups exxcept to get everything out of the way, set my fighters to 15k 50% cap, 50% lrcap just to wear down his fighters. i am trying to save my surface groups for around kopang and PM. In RL the japs also sent the KB of 4 cv's through ther on their way to the Indian ocean. sorry for the long post.

I havent moved any LCU's in sumatra. normally i rail them to medan or palembang. then do i major fight there. am on 3 jan, so far not many air attacks if any on sumatra. nothing on borno north or south coast.
i havent figuared out how to defend in DEI, with the aircraft given at start. On Java, i slowly move all AC to sorabaya, along with my LCU's and fight from there. 11000+ endurence ak's i send to Capetown, alothers to perth. side bar: i just realized freemantle was missing on the map, went to google maps to find it, its just out side of perth. i cant see how to get AC to the DEI before the AI gets there. And if i could would it be worth it considering the skill of the at start piolets and the AC that i could send. the biggest threat i see is the land based G3/G4. so far the 339's at singers have gotten about 20 plus kills on avg for 4 groups. my plan is fight for PM with whats there, let horn island do the same. then reinforce noumea and fight for it till april? when the move bonus ends. then go on the offense. The team that wrote the AI deserve a big kudos. it doess make you think. deff not like witp.

I usually march them all to concentrate in some non-clear terrain base and build up forts to sell their lives for a bit more Jap moneys. Is there any point in paying PPs for feeing up dutch units in this mod? In stock they don't get replacement squads and are pretty useless in general except than garrison duty

No reason to pay PPs for Dutch LCUs or air units in this mod either. As you say, no replacements.

First I would like to tip my hat to everyone who takes the time to do an in-depth AAR, just doing the little that I have done here is a lot of work. I guess I need to take better notes of what I'm doing or get one of the 3rd party aids to work.

Sent one of my CVTF south hoping to catch the two IJN AMC that are in the South Pacific, I believe I sunk both of them. The second CVTF headed towards Wake to
break up the invasion there, which it did. Almost made a serious mistake. I was able to evacuate Wake, but left the CVTF in the area. Thought I gave orders to return
to PH. Anyway the TF was still IVO Wake when the second invasion TF appeared. This force was also attack by air and driven away. My fighters are hurting from being on CAP for more than a week. All will need a good rest when they get back to PH

8-16 December 1941 activity

Lot of sub attacking with little results, as well as counter attacks by ASW assets.

Thanks BBfanboy.

Have compiled all the notes but there is a two or three day battle between the IJN TF mention in post 31 and the USN TF with
Houston/Boise and the Dutch TF

Something to tease the readers with.

1st Major surface battle

The IJN SCTF consisting of; CA Mogami, CA Mikuma, CA Suzuya and CA Kumano with DD Satsuki, DD Minazuki, DD Fumizuki, DD Asakaze, DD Matsukaze and DD Minekaze. These ships were part of a CVL-TF but oops the CVL was sunk on the 25th in a surface action with one Dutch and one British SCTF. BC Repulse did sustain serious damage and still fighting fires on the 29 Dec 41.

The CVL-TF had played havoc with some of my retreating TF bring supplies or fuel from various locations in the DEI. So it had already used up some of its ammo supply. After the engagement on the 25th, I figure that the IJN-TF would be getting low on ammo and torpedoes. The lightly damaged Allies unites returned to Soerabaja to rearm and then when back for more.

In the meantime SCTF Alpha, with CA Huston, and CA Boise with DD Alden, DD Edsall, DD John D. Edwards, DD Whippie, DD B Craven, DD C Craven and DD D Craven were off to try and intercept the IJN. (Whose dat? Remember that this is my mod of #26 and the three Craven ships listed are some of the ones I added)

Over the course of two days of fighting with 10 engagements between the USN and IJN and two engagements by the combine Dutch/British the IJN are low on fuel and probably very low on ammo. Not all of the engagements results in combat

Results for the two days of action:

CA Mogami 3 shell hit
CA Mikuma 1 shell hit
CA Suzuya
CA Kumano 8 shell hit
DD Satsuki 1 shell hit
DD Minazuki 2 shell hit
DD Fumizuki 2 shell hit
DD Asakaze
DD Matsukaze 3 shell hit
DD Minekaze 4 shell hit

CA Huston 2 shell hit
CA Boise 4 shell hits (broke off with C Craven returning to Broome)
DD Alden
DD Edsall
DD John D. Edwards
DD Whippie
DD B Craven 1 shell hit
DD C Craven
DD D Craven 1 shell hit sunk (this occur in the first battle)

CL Dragon 1 shell hit, no other damage to the Dutch/British TF.

I expect the IJN TF will continue to retreat, how far will it go? I shifting subs to try and block it.
All my ships have to return to port for ammo or refit.

The Japanese TF shows as an Escort TF. That means movement will be slowed by heavily damaged ships so I would guess about three hexes per phase.
