2 (?) in one save

Post by fastfrank »

having a repeatable problem in TOAW IV Cobra France. Map goes to black during every combat; more significant is that game vanishes in round 2 of the German (AI) turn. Tried increasing the delay in player options for movement & combat by 10x, maps seemed to only blacken while moving to new center, game did not blow up on round 2 for the Germans, instead lasted to round 8. Have zipped dx diag, crash file and save file but cannot figure out how to attach files to email.

Zip the file up and then attach it via the "click here to upload" found
in the lower left of the "reply to message" dialog that you use to post
things.

pls advise if you did not get crashlog, save file and dxdiag file. Don't know how anything could seem so hard until someone shows the secret key. Thx

au contraire, you gave me enough to experiment with the remaining details. While I wait for tech support to solve, I've been experimenting (grasping at straws without any sound rationale) to try to find a workaround. Just increased delay for movement & combat displays by a factor of 100. German turn ran to completion. Side effect was I was falling asleep watching everything move at speed of molasses in Winter. This does suggest a timing issue is causing Win10 to kill TOAW IV....

Amend that. A timing issue might be causing TOAAW IV to vanish during execution.

I would be inclined to report that as a bug to the tech support section. They
might be able to help you with that. I'm a newbie when it comes to today's
computers. Ask me something about a mainframe though. I was doing mainframe
stuff way back when it first came out. The budget was so low that they couldn't
afford the characters for the decimal digits for '1' and '0', but since we had
to pay for the 'L' and 'O' keys anyway they thought it might be okay to use the
lowercase 'l' for the number one and the Cap 'O' for the number zero. It was
working out for about six months before they finally capitulated and bought us
some proper digits. I had to go through the program code converting from 'o'
( lower case 'O' ) to '0' and so on. Then a US agency with three initials
offered to hire me and the rest is history. But I digress.

So how do I send this to tech support? I was assuming they scan this forum page continually....

I would open an entirely new thread in the tech support section and just report what happened
and mention that you are running WIN10. I've seen posts about WIN10 but I don't remember
what the problem was or what fixed it.

The Windows version is probably irrelevant. I am running under Windows 10 on 2 separate machines without a problem.
When you installed the game, did you accept the defaults? Are you running as an Administrator on the machine and did you install the game under that same userid? Have you installed the patch?
Hank

If you aren't part of the solution, there is good money to be made prolonging the problem.

To your very valid questions, I accepted all defaults, Installed and running as admin, yes patch installed as admin.
Win 10 probably not the issue, used compatibility wizard to try Win8, Win7, and WinXP still same crash in German turn

Have you tried re-installing the game? I had to do that on one of my machines when it just refused to run.
