Thanks Taifun for a great game. I truely enjoyed the AAR, it is unfortunate I was unable to prove your match this time around.

The above summary is quite accurate, I was unable to hold to clear objectives, instead I played re-actively to Allied aggression where I expected only defensive measures. This surprised me, even frustrated me at times (Algeria) but more then anything showed me that to win you have to be disciplined and stick to objectives. I had not planned for an "All of France" as an example, but as I fought tougher UK resistance and French capitulation was delayed I only at the last moment decided I would reject Vichy. This would prove to be the most critical of my miscalculations, plus the others Taifun mentioned in the previous post.

It is very good to see that the Axis were punished so strongly for poor decisions and the Allies were able to stand their ground. Taifun played very fairly and I thank him for that, I actually think he could have punished me further if he only knew how much trouble I was in!

Currently Yugoslavia is set to join the Axis at an earlier date (prior to any Pro-Allied Coup) if surrounding nations Greece, Romania & Hungary have all also joined the Axis.

do you need to diplo all the surrounding countries or only greece (typically)?

If you start diplo of greece late, say in january 40, is that too late to make it happen?

There is no need to use diplomacy on the other nations, Hungary & Romania are destined to join the Axis at some point.

And it is never too late to try for Greece, if all the conditions are met in the fall of 1940 Greece only need be Axis leaning to prompt the event.

Thanks - just so I don't mess this up.

diplo greece to axis leaning by fall 40.
don't do anything to drive hungary and romania away.

is that all that's required?

It's two parts to this equation.

The conditions for Greece joining the Axis is that they are Axis leaning in which case you can persuade the country into the Axis by enforcing an annexation of Italian occupied Albanian territory and the southern parts of neutral Bulgaria. Note that if you force this settlement Italian National Morale will fall, and Bulgaria will sign a defensive pact with USSR (if you DOW Bulgaria you will force USSR into the war). Bulgaria is the x-factor here, because after they join the Axis (or in general are not Axis leaning neutral) the opportunity to enforce the territorial concession to Greece will be lost.

For Yugoslavia to join the Axis it is simpler, if Hungary, Romania & Greece are Axis they will join.

Thanks also I think you or someone mentioned that you can get Spain to join if Germany takes N. Africa. What are the conditions for that?

I think that if Algiers is taken under Axis control, and Casablanca has no Allied units. I haven't tried it successfully though so i'm not 100%.

Do you mean join the Axis? Once Bulgaria is no longer a neutral country the opportunity is lost, which roughly creates a window of opportunity that only extends through the fall/winter of 1940.

so even if you miss the chance to get the greece event to fire you can still diplo greece to join axis later - say 42, and then yugo will join?

If Yugoslavia is neutral whether they are currently leaning towards the Axis or Allies, the nation will join the Axis if each of the below countries are Axis and not surrendered. So you are correct, they could still join the Axis if Greece is brought in by diplomacy.

Germany
Italy
Greece
Romania
Hungary
