My house is on fire-NJP (J) vs NY59 Giants (A)

Post by njp72 »

Hi all, well how lucky am I with another great opponent.

Michael (NY59 Giants) has kindly given me an opportunity to have a game. I think everyone knows Michael pretty well by now, a very accomplished player, a gentleman and one who has had some great match ups in the past (Mr Kane, Olorin etc). I will certainly have my work cut out for me and likely will cop a pasting[:)].

Still as always I intend to see 45 and of course witness the imperial palace on fire from strat bombing (hence my boring title).

Scenario: Despite my initial reluctance, Michael got me completely hooked on one of the mods from BTS. So many wonderful new toys for both players (especially the IJN) so how could I say no. [:D]

Also we are playing PDU On which I haven't done so for many years. No excuses here if I don't get into 44 in a strong position.

My thanks also to all the great team who have put so much time and effort in developing the BTS scenarios. Wonderful detail, art and shiny new toys.

House Rules:

1. Non historic first turn.
2. On turn 1 Allied player can move TF's at sea and Chinese air and ground units.
3. Pay political points to cross national borders. Exception, Thai units may only operate in Thailand or Burma.
4. Multiple port strikes allowed as long as carrier based planes involve with LBA. So, moving part of KB at Babeldoab to off Manila is OK.
5. No warp invasions on turn one, but Mersing Gambit on 8th or 9th OK .
6. No restrictions on strategic bombing outside China. So, Allies can bomb Palembang day after Japan captures it. China is allowed on Jan 1st ’43.

First Turn

Again I have demonstrated my complete disinterest in the PIs and decided to head elsewhere.

There are a few more IJN CVLs in this mod so I was able to hit two ports on turn 1. Pearl which went reasonably well with 2 x BBs sank and Darwin.

Why Darwin? It just places a very powerful early war CV taskforce in an excellent position for me to go hard. Materially I would have caused more damage if I hit Manilla but Darwin has some obvious advantages.

All the other moves have been stock standard and I will starting posting maps.

I have a couple of ideas here which I am keen on implementing.

Really looking forward to this game [:)]

The Allies will concentrate their fleet very fast I suspect, he certainly has in all previous games.

Which leads me to believe he will fight very hard early, giving you opportunity.

If I remember correctly the Sam comes very early in this game...and with r&d can arrive very early extending your KB's reign of terror perhaps?

Have fun.

This is the latest version of the Mod so I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out. LOTS of changes and overhauls to the concept.

Will be watching and if you have questions, please sound off and I'll jump in.

Thanks everyone [:D] This should be a great match.

Well I'm amazed but a basic plan seems to be working to some degree in the DEI.

A light carrier division (Zuhio and friends) that started around Saigon are the anvil around Java with very strong surface forces and troop amphibs.

Sweeping up from Northern Oz is Hiryu and its sister Soryu playing their role as the hammer. Plenty of junk being sunk but we did get the Boise this turn. [:D]

The date is 12th Dec- landings on Java have commenced

Hiryu and Soryu thus far are having a great war [:)]

Butchers Bill- plenty of junk but the occasional gem as well.

Probably x 2 are damaged and floating around and I may get a few more yet.

Great fun being Japan early on as opposed to 44!

Yes Lowpe I think you are spot on with that analysis. He will concentrate quickly and then come looking for a fight.

No doubt those CVs from Pearl are moving to consolidate around Sydney before heading to the DEI for a fight.

Clearly an opportunity here once I get some good LBA up combined with the subs.

In my AI games, I hunt her mercilessly. [:D]
I still remember my first few games where she just ripped me up. One game she got into my MKB and single handedly basically sank the whole thing. [:@][:@][:@]
Glorious ship ... one of my all time favorites in game. Interestingly, she seems to fair far better in game than she did IRL. Not any fault of her commander or crew (IMHO), just a case of timing ... no battle can occur until both sides show up ...

A key move over the next month will be denying the Allies observation posts around the perimeter.

Michael will want to strike back pretty soon but generally Allied players need to confirm KB's position before moving this early.

Thus I am moving now to secure some of the key ground in the central pacific. I would be nervous if I was a digital marine posted on Midway around about now.[:D]

Scoreboard after week 1 of the war.

I suspect another 30 to 40 low value vessels could be added to sunk ships.

Keen to nail about 250 ships in the first month given all the advantages I have in position and availability of flight decks.

Seizing Koepang is critical for my flank protection if his CVs move up from Sydney (that is where I suspect they will be)
