More Psych Warfare - njp72 (J) vs NY59Giants (A)

Post by ny59giants »

Early last week I had a slow day at work, so was I checking out the forum and some AARs. Looking at njp72 vs Wargmr AAR it showed that Wargmr had surrender and the forum was asked for a new opponent. After a few brief PMs and njp72 (Nathan) getting the newest SCEN files for BTS and BTSL, he was hooked. [:)] He lives in Brisbane, Australia and I'm in the eastern time zone USA, so we have a 14 hour time difference which allows us to get two turns in, hopefully, each work day. More on the weekend. Yippie!!

House Rules:

1. Non historic first turn.
2. On turn 1 Allied player can move TF's at sea and Chinese air and ground units.
3. Pay political points to cross national borders. Exception, Thai units may only operate in Thailand or Burma.
4. Multiple port strikes allowed as long as carrier based planes involve with LBA. So, moving part of KB at Babeldoab to off Manila is OK.
5. No warp invasions on turn one, but Mersing Gambit on 8th or 9th OK .
6. No restrictions on strategic bombing outside China. So, Allies can bomb Palembang day after Japan captures it. China is allowed on Jan 1st ’43.

KB3 from Babeldoab ends up 5 hexes north of base. The 2 TFs that start at Darwin had moved a few hexes away. At first I was saying this was a little gamey, but he went here vs Manila. I'll take it!!

Hong Kong - 16 Sally, 33 Lily, 27 Ida, 24 Sonia hit AF

Ternate - Para from 1st Assault Div fly in and capture empty base.

Air Losses: 37A vs 33J - very light

Notes: I'll keep my comments brief as Nathan was granted permission for one post before he goes off to start his own AAR. My spidey senses are already going off. [:D] No invasions of Malaya or Luzon. [X(] On turn one, almost every air group is ordered to stand down. Now they will be up and greeting the invaders.

I had sent Nathan the mod SCEN files. BTS (56) which allows all 4 Yamato Class BBs to be built and the 6 Niitaka Class CAs come in as Fuji Class CB with 6 x 12" guns (I was relentless with John to get my pocket BBs). In the latest version, he gets two Karate Class AKE in mid-42 which have enough cargo capacity to load the 'big boys' 18" shells. John 3rd had recent gotten more research books. These included a two volume set on IJA OOB. After a few discussions, he decided to pull out the fourth infantry regiment from the square divisions and create three more triangle divisions (three infantry regiments). So Japan will not have a few 'heavy' divisions.

I warned Nathan about some of the surprises the Allies may have that he may have glanced over. For those not familiar with these mods, long ago I damaged/disabled the USA economy by at least 50% or more. This was my attempt to represent the need for USA economy to spin up rather than start off with everything running full speed. It will take until Jan '42 before the effects are not felt too severely. There is the Free French fleet arriving in May 42. There is the American Armored Div that arrives in Dec 42 that can be bought out rather withdrawn for Europe. It just takes 6 months worth of Shermans to fill out her TO&E. The four hybrid CLVs can become full CVLs in 42 after 6 months in shipyards. Force Z now has a third BB.

Nice to see the Zeroes bombing from 10k rather than strafing at Pearl.

Lahaina is nice, but what sunk? This is another potential target for the Zeroes flying low.

Darwin over Manila is interesting, and of course is an attempt to be in position to get all the Thundering Herd I think.

Force Z is so potent here...I am curious what you did with them on day 1. I suspect in this mod, a lot like nasty nasty, scrapping the Pearl Strike to deliver potent blows in the SRA might be worthwhile.

Be prepared for an incredibly fast expansion within the first 3 months. He zigged and I zagged and he flat out beat me strategically. I guess the third game just gave him too much info on my psyche ;]

Great to see you both playing this match. I cannot express what a fantastic opponent NJP is. You are going to have a great time!

Poor Washington! [:(]

The obvious question is - "Will each shell do at least 0ne Million Dollars worth of damage?" If not, someone needs to look at this again and rethink it.

Would you see any possibility of escape for the thundering herd by diverting east?

Many would be picked off by LBA but if sufficiently dispersed a few may make it through.

May be better than heading straight into a KB.

What is the point in putting Washington in Pearl at start in this scenario?

I played an early version of BTS against the AI, but have not looked over the Lite version.

In this morning's turn, Nathan remarked that it is too late to make comments. Right now each AAR is closed to each other, so sage advice is welcome here. I'll try to get this AAR caught up in the next few days, but lots of micro-managing of the "Thundering Herd" as I try to get what I can to safety.

KB 1 & 2 are operating off Johnson Island (Dec 11th they are 5 SE). [&:] I see few normal invasions (none on Luzon or Malaya [X(]) so I sense a Eastern Pacific campaign in the days ahead.

41 Dec 8: No follow up attacks at Pearl. No invasions where you would think.

CVs:
KB 1 & 2: 11 NNE of Johnson Is (Is this a normal retreat to cover Wake invasion?)
KB 3: 5 NE Darwin (My shipping here gets hit again - xAP sunk)
KB 4: 4 NE Kuching

Subs:
RO-34 claims an xAKL off Zamboanga

Invasions:
Singkawang & Kuching

DEI:
Sabang area: 9 Kates sink xAKL
Namlea falls to para

Malaya:
Singapore: 20 Oscars vs 16 Hurricanes & 17 Buffalo = 5:1 The Oscars don't do well already. However, 18 Zero down 4 for no losses in PM phase.

Philippines:
4 NW Laoag: 1 0f 8 Brit PT is lost facing 2 CA, 3DD
Off SE Mindanao: 18 Betty from Babeldoab sink 3 xAKLs
Clark: 7 Zero escort in 16 Nell vs 22 P40s = 4:1

China:
Hong Kong: over 75 bombers hit base and port damaging 5 xAKLs

Notes:
I have NavS up this turn and no TFs off Malaya or Luzon. So, the wondering game begins of where all those troops are going?!?

We are cranking out turns despite the 14 hour time difference (Eastern USA to Brisbane). We are approaching the end of Dec. Most of Java has fallen, but the Philippines have been ignored and Malaya was so slow that over 1150 AV is now in Singapore. Meanwhile, Hilo has just fallen and KB 1&2 has been in general Hawaii area for the war to date. He is two hexes to east of Sian in China
