Fellow propellerheads, I need your assistance!

Post by Scorpion86 »

I have been collecting information on the P-2 Neptune for a while and although I managed to find a great deal of unclassified information, I am now at my limit.

Does any one of you, my fellow CMANOers, have information on the loadouts of the Neptune, versions P2V-4 to P2V-7?
I ask because in the P2V-4's Standard Aircraft Characteristics card the armament that it can carry is descriminated, including up to 4 1200lb torpedoes, while the P2V-5's SAC card only lists "torpedoes, mines and bombs carried in the fuselage" up to 12000lbs. However, in the next page, it lists a 2 torpedo ASW patrol configuration.
I find it hard to believe an improved model would have a worse capability than the one that preceeded it, especially using smaller and lighter torpedoes (Mk. 44) than the ones listed in these documents (Mk. 41).

So do any of you have information regarding:
1 - how many torpedoes could the P-2 carry;
2 - how many sea mines and of which type the P-2 could carry, and;
3 - how many bombs of each kind could the P-2 carry in the bomb bay?

The best I could find up to now was that the P2V-1 prototype could carry 2 torpedoes...

Thanks in advance!

Oh boy, do I have something for you!
If you like that kind fo depository, my I introduce you to AviaLogs, a site that has aircraft manuals from all over the world, from WWII to the end of the Cold War.
Also, I present you to AlternateWars.com's Standard Aircraft Characteristics Archive, an archive of datasheets of US Armed Forces' aircraft.
