Can the Swedes actually win?

Post by jackdoom »

The victory conditions of this game seem impossible to reach.

I have been playing the Swedish Intervention scenario for months.
Here are the end results of my most recent effort:
Swedish Morale: 166
Empire: 30
Swedish VP: 3108
Empire VP: 4026
Swedish Losses: 54,193
Empire Losses: 61,843
Swedes captured ever single objective city
I had it on “private” setting with increased forces and manual replacements
I am not sure what more I can do….

I don’t see how I can capture towns any faster than I did. Hamburg fell on the next to last turn. Munich with & Wurzberg with 2 or 3 turns to go.

I basically split the Swedes into 3 major groups. Each Group basically could only take one major city a year, and because sieges take so long, you had to begin fairly early in the year. I tried to be mindful of supplies. Brandenburg never joined in spite of being 100% protestant. France joined but accomplished nothing.
Main Army: Gustavus, Baner, Bernie Saxe-Weimar, Knyphousen & Tott:
1630: Captured Gartz & wintered there
1631: Captured Frankfurt/Oder & marched to Dresden for winter
1632: Captured Prague & Pilsen & wintered there
1633: Captured Brunn & wintered there
1634: Captured Vienna & wintered there
1635: Captured Munich

2nd Group: Horn, Johan Ernst
1631: Captured Kolberg, Marched to Leipzig
1632: Captured Erfurt, stayed for Winter
1633: Captured Frankfurt, Mannheim,
1634: Heidelberg,
1635: Wurzburg

3rd Group: Wille Saxe-Weimar, Leslie
Captured Rostock, Lübeck & Hamburg
These took forever – Rostock & Hamburg more than a year each.

I had a couple of other small groups running around. The only city I ever lost was Kassel. Arnim & the Saxons eventually recaptured that
