Freikorps Denmark

Post by Dinglir »

In my game against HardLuck, Freikorps Denmark has just arrived on the scene at the beginning of turn 47.

I have spotted a few errors regarding this unit

1) As the unit was historically flown in to the Demyansk kessel on 8th of May, having it arrive in Germany on turn 47 is a little off.
2) While the unit was officially non-political, in reality it was schooled in the national socialis ideals from the very beginning. It was also assigned to Waffen SS (it's members swore the SS oath, though the units was not formally part of the Waffen SS) and most of its members were ardent nazi's. This also explains why these people would fight for a nazi Germany that had occupied the home country.

Sure you know fighting for the country that conquered you is very common. The Hiwis, the Germans in the Foreign Legion in Indonesia in the early days of that war, not to mention all the French other Europeans who fought with and for Germany against Bolshevism during WWII. If the Germans had been able to entice more "volunteers" it sure would have helped with the manpower shortage - then again, they were on a war of extermination an not assimilation against the Soviets.

Always been interested in the Demyansk pocket and how that played such a big part in Stalingrad.

Dinglir I love your AARs - would love to play you some day and see my blunders forever put into writing haha.
