Kobe

Within sight of the great naval port, Battlecruiser Kongo sinks. Many attribute it to the recent battle fought with Alaska. While true, others claim she sank from simple eghaustion. three-and-half years of constant stress, strain, and battle kills the old gal. She takes with her over 700 crew. News is sent to Tokyo.

Yokohoma
The four remaining heavy cruisers of Combined Fleet (Maya, Chikuma, Atago, and Kumano arrive with six DDs providing escort. A few hours behind them comes BC Kirishima (now the LAST of pre-war Capital Ships) and 3 E-Class escorts. The weary crews drop anchor.

Tokyo
Naval Ministry
Sitting at his mahogany desk in the Naval Ministry, Adm. Yamamoto strongly suspects what is to come. His nemesis, Tojo, is desperate and must be planning some sort of action. He needs help to counter these possible plans. STUPID FOOLS of the army. He had counseled against war, resisted as long as he could, and now his Fleet and Nation were on the verge of total annihilation. Staring up at the ceiling he contemplates options for quite some time and reaches a decision.

Yamamoto summons an orderly and dictates orders. At Yokohoma, the recently arrived warships receive immediate orders to enter Tokyo Bay and have their Marines ready for an inspection by the Naval Minister himself.

Army Ministry
Near where Yamamoto sits, Tojo Hidecki also dictates orders. There are numerous Army units being rebuilt in the Tokyo area. Three fine, young Colonels have been selected this day to lead their new recruits. These Colonels are perfect for the most important mission of their lifetimes. They are zealots...

Three Imperial Army Regiments are about to get new commanders and orders...

Rats, that is always infuriating when a ship goes down just before entering port.

Hmm ... looks like Yamamoto and Tojo may spark more fireworks than the B29s!

The B-29s were busy burning up Osaka on the 3rd.

Question on points for the Kongo: will the Allied side get points for this ship right away, or only at some later time when the Japanese officially admit it in the operations report?

Pends on when it gets reported. Sometimes it is immediate and at other times it takes a while.

The First Assault on Fusan is rebuffed yielding a 1-2. Forts are 6 and they will not hold very long...

Can't you reinforce using landing barges? Should be an overnight trip to load, transit, unload, disband to port, do not refuel, direct, absolute.

Bonus, it might suck some ships into the CD guns...I think I sank 10 CVE there once upon a time.

What happens if we both win? Do we both get a PT boat named after us in future histories? [:'(]

Pt Arthur

Wherever possible Japan seeks to jab just a bit to try to stave off the inevitable. The day before recon and bombardment revealed 2/3 of a very tired Infantry Division trying to invest Port Arthur. A possibility? YES.

The few remaining Japanese bombers in Manchuria smack the Allied Combat Commands with 29 aircraft causing nearly 100 casualties. Shortly thereafter the remaining Forts, CD units, and Infantry open up and after 15 minutes (don't have supply for more) the assault commences with the veteran, but mauled, 3rd Tank Division leading the attack.

The result is a resounding success. A 3-1 result occurs with Japan losing 764 Cas--10 Guns--4 Vehicles in exchange for 1,586 POWs, 39 Guns, and 61 Vehicles. NICE!

It isn't much but...

As normal, heavy air action occurs over Nagasaki, Osaka, Maizuru, Muroran, and Tottori.

Very good results are obtained over Nagasaki and Osaka.

In a very ominous development, for the 1st time, Japan runs dry on its front-line fighters pools. That it has taken this long is testament to to the aircraft building industry but just shows we are getting right down to it gang...
