Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich version v1.03!

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

⦁ Modified aircraft graphics to be more proportionally realistic during Action Phase.
⦁ Modified over 70 map locations to more geographically accurate locations

⦁ Lots of minor bug fixes

Changelog - v1.03

Performance note - As operating systems have evolved, many people have reported a significant drop in performance and some other DirectX related problems while playing Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich in fullscreen mode. To help address some of these issues, this update will automatically be installed in Windows 7 compatibility mode. To further increase performance, either play the game with the "windowed mode" option on, or use a 3rd party full screen emulator like DXWnd. You must first remove all compatibility settings to run the game DXWnd. To do this you should run DXWnd in "expert mode" and "clear the compatibility flags" from the "Tools" menu.

Changes
o Overhauled Production System User Interface. Added priority buttons and filters for aircraft type. Added "Weapon Database" menu bar to Production screen. Also changed how research works (See production system write-up in the "Manuals" folder.)
o Added "highlight airfields with units" button to Defender's reaction phase side menu.
o Reduced priority of multi-engine aircraft production.
o Changed the unit upgrade message to show the old AC type as well.
o Added minimum CH chances for increased damage CH and one-shot-kill CH.
o Added code to limit units to one strafe attack per mission.
o Added missions, sorties, fatigue and "days since last mission" columns to squadron information screens.
o Added a sort button for the units to sort by unit ID.
o Added ability to bring up "Unit Detail" screen by clicking squadron info button twice in "List Air Unit" and "Order of Battle" screens.
o Added filters for displaying unique aircraft types (fighter, fighter bomber, jets, etc.) on several info screens.
o Added historical pilots and leader names to RCAF and other units. Modified the P-61 endurance and allowed rockets to some Typhoon standard load outs (see details in "November 2017 OOB changes" document.)
o Modified aircraft graphics to be more proportionally realistic during Action Phase.
o Added roundels for RCAF, RAAF, and RNZAF aircraft.
o Modified over 70 map locations to more geographically accurate locations (i.e Bitburg, Munster, Rostock, etc.)
o New Map Graphics courtesy of George Ross' awesome visibility mod.
o Added Production and PBEM instructional PDF's

Fixes
o Fixed replay crash and wrong aircraft graphic bug.
o Fixed wrong anthem playing for victorious nationality.
o Found a bug in the AI prod routine that may have caused too many new AC to be built when the old type was needed.
o Fixed a minor error in the loading of buttons. o The "toggle on/off following units" button in Action Phase reversed to now read correctly.
o Fixed a few other minor issues that may have caused CTD's in the past.

Have not played Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich for a while, great to have the new update.

I am running the program in window mode on my MacBook Pro using Bootcamp.

If not run in a window text is not visible in game.

I had the same problem with War in the Pacific and running in a window fixed the problem.

Is it possible to nominate a window size to increase the current window size which only covers approximately 50% of the screen area?

You would have to adjust your desktop size to achieve this. I've had great success running the game fullscreen with dxwnd under W10.

Overall real nice, thanks!

Would anybody care to share there window resize settings with DXwnd on W10? Or if there´s any other way to resize default window mode.

Game runs alot better now but the size of the default window is just a tad small for these old eyes. In full screen there is a bit of lag reaction when clicking menus and icons, so performance seems to be better in windowed mod on my W10x64.

If you are going to run EDTBTR through DXWnd you may as well run it full screen and not concern yourself with window size, no?

After you download (just google it) and install DXWnd, run it and set the target paths to let DXWnd find btr.exe. Then, from the "Tools" menu select "expert mode" and "clear the compatibility flags"

All the default settings for DXWnd should result in the full screen-high performance experience if you run btr.exe through DXwnd. I'll try to get a dxwnd thread started soon for the uninitiated.

Thanks, but as you explained it, I don´t get a full screen mode. I get windowed with off-set.

I have used DXWnd before and I have always found my self with "hit and miss" with this app. That´s why I asked...

Hi, did you set full screen in the EDBTR Game options?

Hi, yes EDBTR is set to full screen. It worked but In the target window (DXWnd), I had to change the "window initial position & size" to 1280x1024.

Either way, it would be nice to have a guide on how to set up DXWnd on Windows 10 for EDBTR.

Thank you sir.

As a side note, it runs ALOT smoother then the earlier version, so my congrats to everyone involved in this recent patch.
Great work and thanks for keeping this unique game alive!

Does Eagle Day not have the command line switches like some other Grigsby games? Something like -w -px# -py# ?

No, several data files have been modified so old saves will not be compatible.

If you have been running the beta and started a BoB40 campaign then your games will be compatible. I have finished modifying the dat files for that campaign.
