Generate Battle keeps crashing
When generating battles, the program often crashes with a message attached to this post.
If this is caused by some conflicting parameters(OOB not available for that year for a particular country or something), I suppose there should be a warning message shown and not completely crashing the game.

Looks like whenever you choose "Size: Company", it always crashes

There are no company sized organizations, you need to start with battalion.

Acknowledged. Alas, can the option 'company' being blanked out/not appear at all in order to prevent the crash in the future? Not that this one is a 'biggie'; but if the selection 'company' ain't there, it ain't cause a crash.ORIGINAL: Jason Petho

For random battle generation, generating company level battles will no longer be an option. Included in the next patch. No ETA available.ORIGINAL: Oberst_Klink

There are no company sized organizations, you need to start with battalion.
In the meantime, just ignore the company option.

No trouble at all. Just one more thing... I created a random battle, France vs. Algeria, June 1954, Meeting Engagement, Battalion level... but nearly a whole corps was spawned. WAD? I haven't saved it, will check it again later on with a few more 'tests'. Just seemed a bit odd that Paris send me a whole bunch of troopsORIGINAL: berto

See below; 4 x Mot.Inf.Coy, 2 x Mech.Inf.Coy, 2 x Lt.Tank.Coy... The size of at least a a Half-Brigade or a reinforced Mixed Mobile Group. Again, I am not sure how it is coded, e.g. if there have to be a minimum amount of units being created.

In my tests, generating a random battalion sized battle is indeed doing just that, but with high order HQ units thrown in.ORIGINAL: Oberst_Klink

If you observe this again, please check Status > Strength ... Apart from any high order HQs, are the actual fighting forces more or less a battalion?
Also, try selecting the Static Line Battle type. At the Battalion Size, you should see on-map more or less battalion vs. battalion. (Apart from any reinforcements, which again may just be mainly high order HQs.)

The random battle generator is far from perfect. We will be reviewing it and reworking it later in the year.

Berto, I ain't complaining 'bout it at all. Was just, shall we say... puzzled? I don't know about the 'inner works' of how the AI pulls the units from the .org files. I.e. the random battles at games like WinSPWW2/MBT are based on points one assigns. So again, was just wondering.ORIGINAL: berto

Oh, there's plenty to complain about, hence our plan sooner or later to review the battle generator (also the random map generator). I just think the Battle Size control is close to WAD, first glances notwithstanding.

I did a quick test in generating two Battalion sized Random Battles, then viewing them on Scenario Selection dialog. The other one had a Complexity rating of 3, meaning 51-90 units on map in total, and the other 4, meaning 91-140 units on map, again in total (see manual page 16).
So seems to be in line. As such.
The HQ spawning is a "known feature", it can result in some rather silly amounts at HQs at times, but hopefully something we can fix when we, as Berto mentioned, proceed to overhaul this particular part of the Front End application.
There's a beautiful application-within-application awaiting us there, whether for Random Battles, or for Dynamic Campaign Games. They do come with their little quirks at the moment. Iron them out, and, well, I for one can't be happier. Writing a Dynamic Campaign Game, with all the parameters available to script a full campaign, that's a goal to wait for [:)]
