By the way, it seems my suggestion with creating a new Windows administrator account and installing the game on that administrator account have fixed armonica's issue.
So I believe that the issue on his case his related with folder permissions. The only issue is that he needs login in this new account in order to play the game.
I'm just posting this, becasue it might be helpful to others experiencing the same issue.

Good Day,
I know this is the wrong place but THE campaign series Forum seems dead. I am desperately trying to get the John Tiller Campaign series to work. I can launch it and get the main menu but it will not launch Any of the sub st games from there. I have tried all the fixes listed in the Tech and help forums. I am not able to post URL's to pictures of the Numerous error codes I get or attach any files.

I am running a Dell Vostro with Windows 10. The games used to run when I would launch just the WF.exe etc. But now they too crash to desktop. This is my favorite game series from matrix. I am a disabled Vet with Old man syndrome of not know computers as well as some of you. ANY suggestions or fixes would be appreciated. Even if I have to BUY a new VERSION or something I am will to do so.

Cheers,
Andrew J. Franke

Please check the following:

Control Panel>Programs and Features>Turn Windows features on or off

Under "Legacy Components" ensure that "Direct Play" is turned on.

Thanks for the assistance, VPaulus. We will make note of it.

Berto, I've been having this same problem. Picked up the game today in the sale after having eyed it for a long time. Screen is black when I load a scenario, whether I load through me.exe or the frontend. Pressing 1-7 doesn't do anything. Maps do load in the map editor. Running a GTX 1080 and Windows 10. Messed around with administrator settings and compatibility mode, and confirmed that DirectPlay is enabled, both to no avail.

I've attached my log files here. I have a Dropbox link of my whole install directory I can PM if anyone is interested.

I fetched your install. Your install runs fine, no issues, on my Win7 test rig. Moreover, the engine.log I generate is an essentially perfect match with the engine.log you uploaded here earlier.

You tried this suggestion, yes?

My next step will be to attempt preparing a special debug me.exe with enhanced logging capabilities. I can then send it along to you for you to try out.

But later. Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S. today, right? [;)]

Thanks berto. I haven’t tried making a separate administrator account, I suppose I’ll try that. When you send the debugger I’ll give it a shot.

The fact that you can load maps and they display in the map editor -- this indicates it is not a video card or display issue.

No, a black screen in the game engine usually indicates some data file is missing or failed to load properly, or maybe is corrupted. It can also signal a file permissions issue.

Enhanced logging may or may not give us a clue. But it, and installing under an Administrator account -- they are both worth trying.

I sent a PM with a link to a replacement me.exe, with enhanced logging capabilities, also instruction on how to proceed.

Sorry to take so long to respond, CaptainKoloth.

I had looked at your augmented engine.log files, and they provide no clue as to why you are seeing a black map.

Assuming you are still facing this difficulty...

You can load up all maps in the map editor, they all display properly, right?

In the game engine, what if you try experimenting with different settings for

Options > Initial View

We want to determine if the issue is with displaying the map in 2D vs. 3D, or it doesn't matter, both fail.

Have you tried loading a wider variety of scenarios? Not just the Bootcamp* one(s), but others?

If trying to start up in different display modes doesn't help; if attempting to load different scenarios doesn't help; if perhaps tweaking Windows compatibility settings doesn't help -- if all of those, I can't offer any recourse except to suggest waiting until CSME 2.0 comes out. That update will be an entirely new game install. Maybe it will fix your display issues. If not, we deal with that when and if.

Good luck.

Hey everyone, Berto and I figured out the problem. In case you find yourself having this issue, here's what we discovered.

If you look at posts 47-53 on this thread, I found I had a similar situation. If I rename me.exe anything else, I see graphics. When I went into my Nvidia Control Panel and went to 3D settings, it seems that me.exe is identified as a program called CAXA 2008. I haven't been able to separate that profile from me.exe so I'm stuck renaming me.exe as something else and not being able to use the frontend.

So it seems to be something buried in Nvidia's drivers. I first got wind of this tonight when I saw a folder for a program called CAXA 2008 had been created in my Videos folder. This is not a program I actually have but I noticed the folder was created at the same time I installed CSME. So some Nvidia software I suspect identified CSME as CAXA and is applying some settings to it buried deep within the drivers. If you look at post 53 in the thread that gentleman was able to use third party software called Nvidia Inspector (not an Nvidia program actually) to disassociate me.exe from this CAXA 2008 profile, but he said it came back again when the drivers updated and I don't want to have to repeat that process every time I get a driver update.

So if you have this problem and you have an Nvidia card, you have two options:

Hard Way:
Go to posts 47-53 and as described there get Nvidia Inspector to modify the drivers. You may have to repeat every time there's a driver update. Upside is you can use the frontend.

Easy Way:
Rename me.exe as literally anything else. Downside is you won't be able to use the frontend to open scenarios, you have to do it directly from the executable.

WEll, I once had this problem and was able to fix it by running it as administer I believe is what I did. Now I have the problem again.
I have windows 10 with the Creator update. I'm hoping the next update to be released tomorrow is going to fix this as I see plenty have
had the problem.

I renamed it as me1.exe game would not run in that case.

There are one or two filenames I’ve run across that don’t work (it’s not literally any file name whatsoever), did you try some others?

And perhaps more importantly do you have an up to date Nvidia card and/or Nvidia GeForce Experience? If not this won’t be your root issue.

In the forthcoming CSME 2.0, we have fixed this problem for good (we hope!) by renaming me.exe > meengine.exe.
