New Game?

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War is a new and innovative turn-based strategy game that puts you in command of the Carthaginian military during a period of total war over land and sea with the young Roman Republic. With this military juggernaut of the ancient world at your disposal, you will vie for control over Italy, Carthage, Spain and the Mediterranean Sea using a combination of strategic political maneuvering and sheer tactical skill both on land and sea. Play consists of two layers; the first is a strategic layer where you must prudently steer your forces to the destruction of Rome’s army and the ultimate destruction of the Republic and city itself. At your disposal are a variety of unit types and historical commanders from which to form your armies. On the tactical scale, when meeting the enemy in battle, skilled leadership and a knack for war come into play as you use a simple but engaging battle system to best your opponents.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. And wishes that Santa brings a super game for next Christmas.

So just to confirm...there will be a multiplayer campaign? I saw mention of a multiplayer battle, but I'm mainly interested in a multiplayer campaign. If so, will players have the option of fighting the battles out using the tactical system? Maybe under certain conditions, such as having a leader, etc.

BTW, Hannibal was and is one of my favorite PC games ever!

The short answer is yes. I think with the multiplayer campaign, the criteria for automating battles will be something set at the beginning of the scenario. I want to allow players to fight the crucial battles, but I also want avoid having the game slowed down by minor battles. Some of that can be an option for the players themselves.

I haven't really decided on multiplayer battles or not. But the game will definitely have a few multiplayer campaigns.

I have been working on the game and it is progressing. Recently, what I have done is to rework the interface for map selections which don't hold armies.

This replaces what is currently on my website. I have extended the panels to include numerical summaries with color-coding (black is friendly, red is hostile, and grey is neutral).

The attribute panels and summaries that you see above are clickable and will open the relevant dialog with an appropriate selection. For example, if you click on the "Cities" panel in the Display Area you will see the Province Report with the "Cities" pane selected.

The old display when provinces, sea zones, etc., were selected was both overwhelming and not entirely informative. I hope this new scheme will make the game easier to play.

Here is a sample from a province selection:

Of course some of those icons in the panels are placeholders and will eventually be replaced. You may notice the style as taken from "Hannibal." [:D]

Here is a sample from the relevant Report Dialog. It is a work in progress, but you will get the general idea. This is what you'd see if you clicked on the "Cities" icon in the previous screen:

Looks good, thanks for the update. Will there be an option to manually enter battle results so that, say, oh just off the top of my head, if I wanted to fight a battle in Field of Glory 2 then enter the results back into the game? I think I know what the answer will be but I can dream [;)]

That seems possible. I guess that it depends on how much manual input or interpretation will be required to give the game the information that it would need in order to conclude the battle and continue play.

Did you envision doing this as part of a multi-player game? Or a solo game?

I am still hoping for a Christmas release. [:)]

No pressure at all. [:D] Better later, and as good as you can make it, than a rushed product. [:)]
