UPDATE5 - future

Post by Peter Fisla »

Ok so now that everyone has UPDATE4, it's time to think about the future. I'm not yet ready to start working on Italy/France Expansion so for the next update (I'm just starting to work on it now), I'm going to add native 4K support and then I'm going to add "Smoke 'em if you got 'em" feature for Ordnance and AFVs...and more feature/bug fixes that I have not exactly clearly identified yet.[:)]

Just to keep my reputation as a pest... the "Gaining Acquisition in Advancing Fire after moving" bug is still there [;)]

Turn #1 of "Pershing on the Front": the M4/75 moved and stopped, then fired at the 2 Fallschirmjager squads and gained acquisition (see image). Update 4, beta version (1.082).

Acquisition is not gained when firing at an AFV, or if the firing vehicle remains in motion.

Just to be clear . Smoke `em if u got `em , is smoke laying abilities to AFV`s and support weapons if they can use
it ?.
If so. that by itself opens many more options .
Your on a roll Peter :) , patch 4 I found was a nice improvement.

Yes, Smoke/White Phosphorous shells will now be available in scenarios vs AI, to both human player and AI to applicable ordnance and AFVs weapon systems.

This feature is currently only available in human vs human scenarios.

Soldiers are not allowed to smoke on the battlefield, it's health hazard! :)

2 things I'd love to see and I believe have been brought up before:

1) Ability to move (limber/unlimber) ordnance. Or at least move smaller ordnance one hex or something.
2) Allow on board mortars (and other indirect fire ordnance) to fire at targets OOS - but in sight of friendly units or leaders; like in the Close Combat series of games.

UP844 you should be able to place an acquisition on AFVs if you have stopped in the Advancing Fire Segment but not as you states if you still are in movement.

In the image below, the Sherman moved, stopped and fired on the PzIV, but gained no acquisition. Is this correct? I am a bit puzzled [&:]

Ok I have just checked the code and this feature is working fine it's not a bug UP844.

- If an AFV moves in its movement segment and stops before the end of the movement segment then that AFV may acquire a target in Advancing Fire Segment (or any further fire segment).

- If An AFV that moved in its movement segment but did not stop, it cannot acquire target in Advancing Fire Segment (or any further fire segment).

I understand, but then there is a bug when the target is an AFV.

The Sherman did exactly the same move in the two examples I posted. It stopped when it had still more than one MP remaining (the two eligible hexes were white, not red) and I discarded a game where it became bogged.

When firing against the two squads, the Sherman gained acquisition and this is OK, as you stated. Fine, but why the Sherman didn't gain acquisition when it fired to a static Pz IV? [&:]

Not sure, since the Sherman stopped during its movement segment and fired against the Pz IV it should have gained acquisition.

Is gaining acquisition automatic, or does it depend on some kind of die/dice roll too? If the latter is true, perhaps I have been rolling bad a lot of times [;)]

yes its automatic, assuming the firing unit is not moving as well as the target
