Considering a WW1 Title

Post by spinecruncher »

Well, since the holiday sale is here, and I really have a great interest in WW1, I am hoping I can get some feedback on the various titles: End All Wars; WW1 Gold; Commander The Great War; and I think those are the three major titles out there for WW1. Any one play these titles much? Good games? Thanks!

Just read the link suggested, much to my surprise seeing a re-release of this game..! I have the game, thought it was OK, just hate tiles. I was hoping for a re-release of this game in hexes, like was done with SC's latest WW II game. First off, am going to check for an update to this game, if there is any related to this new re-release of SCWWI dated Dec. 7, 2017.

Hearts of Iron variant Darkest Hour has a WW1 scenario.

I have To End All Wars and World War 1 Gold. I prefer the latter - it was a one man effort which eventually got finished. But I only play short scenarios. The victory screens always seem a bit strange so I just decide whether I won, or more usually, lost.

I really like To End All Wars, but be warned, you must like the Ageod engine to like this title.

Second that. Good AI, WEGO system and free setup of your forces in 1914, where you can deploy your corps as you please and try different strategies (e.g. Russia first as CP).

Personally, I would go with Guns of August, an excellent game.

CTGW (commander the great war) is a fairly decent game, I'd buy it when on sale, not worth the regular price. The game plays real smooth (IGOUGO) and can be a challenge, but over time the player will realize the devs did not fully do their job. To me; It was an excellent game in MP.

Oh no! You will have your hands full with the AI in SP..! But after awhile (not right away) you should see errors in the game programming that strategically does not make sense, otherwise, the game CTGW works great... And by the way the AI cheats, most games do anyways... If you have any questions about the game, I am very familiar with just about all of it's nuances, besides doing a number of AARs posted at the CTGW forum, also be sure to update your game to v1.66 when the game launch window shows up on your screen...

Good luck[:)]

Can you tell me how the game compares with GOA? I really like the simplicity of GOA? Maybe that is a broad questions, but-how do you think the two games stack-up against each other. It is interesting bc I fired up GOA after about 10 years and i have been playing it for last few days. What a nice game. I am suppose it is not getting activity in the forums. But I suppose there are so many new titles coming out all the time that it sort of got forgotten.

Haven't played GOA in many years, back then it was the hot WW I item at the time, matter-o-fact, it was likely the only WW I game then...[:D] There may of been another, but it was so lame it was not worth spit...
