Floating damage of AFDB repair dock

Post by Balou »

An AFDB dock ear-marked for Rabaul is underway - now near Luganville - with system damage (10), floating damage (11) and engine damage (10). How will repair be managed ?

Depends where you put it, the facilities available and the repair mode.

There's some pretty good posts on repair by Alfred but the short version is,

In readiness or pierside it will repair system, minor flotation and minor engine damage. Major float damage can be repaired if less than 5 in pierside.

In shipyard mode you can repair everything but its normally more efficient to do everything you can in pierside first.

Whatever the mode, if it can be repaired under those circumstances, the system will prioritise float damage first, and only repair other modes when float damage is lower (half?) of other damage.

Throw in repair ships as well and it gets more complicated.

Not sure if a Japanese AFDB is the same as an American ARD (floating dry dock), but I had an 8k capacity one enroute to Noumea eat a torpedo.

I diverted it to the Sydney shipyard for repair before eventually getting it to Noumea.

Any port you intend to use for ship repair will always do better when you also have a leader and engineers stationed there.
Of course, keep it well supplied as well and AG ships present.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your repair ship must not have any damage of its own in order to fix other ships.

You are correct. A damaged ARD can't repair damaged ships....GP

Thanks to all for your input. My ARD slowly recovers, and since no major damage: pierside repair does it.
