WitW map mod for future WitE2(Work in progress)

WitW map mod for future WitE2 (Work in progress)

I was asked to move this here to prevent cluttering up the WitE2 Thread.

What you have is my attempt to modify the WitW map in preparation for a modifying the WitE2 map which uses a similar construction technique so as such its really a learning experience rather then a dedicated map mod for WitW and I am in no rush.

The approach is map-like and stylized, an appearance that I like.

At present it looks more like a board game then anything, something else I don't mind.

The WitE2 and the WitW map use a different construction technique compared to the WitE map and while this offers you a lot of choices a crucial difference is that art in one hex is repeated in numerous other hexes and also affected by a base layer so getting the look you want can be more difficult but it does lend itself to a stylized approach.

Clear weather. Note I do not have the mountain textures flowing into the next hex so you get what I think is a board game effect doing it this way also makes it a lot easier to experiment.

Change from clear to light to heavy mud on the mountains (test) Note I decided that mud makes textures darker rather the lighter so you move from light to dark.

I like it very much (especially when looking at the last screenshot with the marsh) with the exception of the mountains. I think they are popping out visually a bit too much (good for recognizing them but less so for aesthetical purposes). Maybe a lighter grey would be better than the tan/yellowish brown?

Nice work! I'm not a big fan of stylized map art (gameboard look). I hope there are some others with your talents, motivation & dedication who are converting the Jison/Rainy Day map art created for WitE(1).

Unfortunately, this will not happen. The way maps work in the two games is fundamentally different - while WitE allows to "paint" a map under the hex grid (in simplified terms), WitW puts together the map using individual hexes (each of which are coming from a "template", meaning they will have to be generic enough to be re-used across the game). Therefore, there is no "conversion" of Jison's WitE map possible for WitW ...

Changed a few things but remember even a subtle change can make something else look strange so work will be ongoing and ultimately the goal is to use it for WitE2.

Will upload it at some stage.

I should say its also beginning to drive me a little crazy.

Mountains with clear weather, I may start moving towards grey but at present it works well with the greens.

FWIW, I'm a bit red-green colour blind. The current colour palette you've used means I have a little difficulty picking out the mountains from the hills. I *think* that greys might work better, making it easier to distinguish between those terrain types.

Cheers

Looks great, experiment in sadism?

Great work, but it is kind of cruel to dangle that carrot and not share your hard work.
