boxed game to steam acct help

I got my steam key. I went to steam and added game. Steam shows the game is not installed. But it is. Any work around so I don't have to spend three hours re-downloading the game. Steam also is not allowing me to remove the game from my steam game list. Suggestions.

Steam does not recognize a non steam version being installed as supplanting a steam copy. If you want to use the steam version, for Workshop or whatever reason, you will need to download it. You can have both the steam and non steam versions installed, but I have no idea why one would want to do that.
