No night airfield bombing raids against Rabaul ordered this game turn. USAAF B-29 Superfort air units remain stood down to recover damaged planes.

Detected status of Jap base at Lae (after raids above) – 102 aircraft (all fighters) , airfield damage 5, 4 Jap TF (16 ships, all small ship types), 14 Jap LCU.

Detected status of Jap base at Wau – unidentified Jap planes visible on airfileld, 7 Jap LCU.

Detected status of Jap base at Salamaua – 11 Jap LCU.

Detected status of Jap base at Rabaul – 536 aircraft (246 fighters, 172 bombers, 118 other planes including transports), 5 Jap TF (17 ships total, all small ship types), 56 Jap LCU, defensive minefield visible on map.

Detected status of Jap base at Madang – 11 detected planes on airfield, 9 Jap LCU.

Allied 2E torpedo and skip bombers based in eastern New Guinea (mainly Port Moresby) have been set to perform low-level night naval air strikes on Japanese ship movements in the Bismarck Sea area and sea hexes off Lae over the last 5-6 game turns along with naval air search LBA operating at night to detect and target potential Jap TF. Until now no Allied naval air strikes set for these missions successfully launched and attacked a detected Japanese TF at night. Since I have not seen anything in the AE forums suggesting any AFB’s doing this particular air tactic, I thought it possibly worthwhile to experiment with this, especially given Pillager had successfully launched similar night naval air strikes with Jap LBA against Allied TF in the central Solomons. It appears the use of night naval air strikes by Allied LBA bombers can be workable, even though this particular action against Jap surface ASW did not produce results. AAR follows.

Night Air attack on TF, at Umboi Island 100,125
