How to take Azores

Post by jjdenver »

If Portugal proper is conquered and you want to invade Azores to take all the small island hexes, do you have to invade each individual hex or is it enough to take the hex with the minor port in it?

Controlling all cities and ports of a territory conquers it.

It Azores a territory? The problem I see is that one hex with the port is not adjacent to the other group of hexes (none of which have a port).

You can view the main menu area while mousing over the hexes to see. If they are all part of the Azores then what I stated is the rule.

However I'm not sure if it's been implemented totally bug-free.

It should work correctly (it did so in the past). If not, we've got a new bug around...

IIRC it works on initial conquest but there was a problem or two on reconquest.

From RAW:
A territory is either:
ï something similar to a home country but without a capital city and only reachable by an INF rather than a MAR (e.g. Gibraltar, British Somaliland, Papua); or
ï an island that is not part of a home country (e.g. Truk is a territory, but Sumatra is not because it is part of the Netherlands East Indies).

That description is no longer valid in MWIF. In MWIF every hex is allocated to a country or territory on an individual base...

Does it affect the Azores? Azores is a Territory or a group of them, according to MWIF description, then?

It does. All islands on that part of the map are the Azores and it's one territory. So if you grab the port, you conquer them all.
