Norway has a record away win (although against San Marino), but it does nothing as there is no chance to progress (which I am actually glad about).

Here is the latest table for the current second-placed teams....

How the best second-placed teams are ranked

All nine group winners qualify automatically. The eight best runners-up with the best records against the sides first, third, fourth and fifth in their groups go into the play-offs for UEFA's remaining four berths (the exclusion of results against sixth-placed sides was retained to alleviate any possible imbalance between the qualifying groups caused by the late introduction of Gibraltar and Kosovo).

European Qualifiers for FIFA World Cup: who gets to Russia?
With matches against the bottom side in the six-team groups discounted, the runners-up are ranked by the following criteria, in this order, as per FIFA competition regulations, article 20 paragraph 6, criteria a), b), c), then h) and i):

1 Highest number of points
2 Best goal difference
3 Highest number of goals scored
4 Fair play points (first yellow card -1pts; second yellow card/indirect red card -3pts; direct red card -4pts; yellow card, direct red card -5pts)
5 Drawing of lots

Well done Wales. They sneaked a victory out in Georgia but frankly its all about the 3 points. Still likely (at the moment) to need to beat the Republic of Ireland on Monday to get into the top 8 play-off places though......

With Iceland at home to Kosovo next, they are practically on the plane to Russia. Given that their group includes Croatia, Turkey and Ukraine, that is one hell of a performance [&o]

Puts England's qualifying into perspective.....[:(]

With the Serbs at home to Georgia next, it is unlikely they will fail to take top spot in their group, but that defeat must add at least a little pressure their way? Come on Wales!!

And Northern Ireland - one more big result from you please

Considering they play against Norway, I will join you in wishing for a good result for Northern Ireland here.

Okay [;)]

Sadly no Dutch at the World Cup [:(] It is a shame Sweden and Holland couldn't have qualified/play-offs but it looks like France have nicked top spot.

It was from the official UEFA website before the final set of penultimate games (as can be seen from the games played and the date posted). Are you getting confused with the fact that the results against the bottom team are discounted perhaps?

Fortunately Northern Ireland are okay anyway but, if my reading is correct, had Scotland won yesterday then Northern Ireland would possibly be out (depending on results from Groups D and I - see below) as Scotland's 2 extra points would have taken them to 14 and above the men in green (and one has to assume that Greece are going to beat Gibraltar).

Scotland, Scotland, Scotland - it all looked so good at half time..... It's such a shame that Kane got that extra time equalizer against them - because as it turns out, England didn't need it and it would have possibly saved Scotland. But at the end of the day, they had just one job - defeat a weakened Slovenia and all would be well...[:(]

As it is it looks like Slovakia could well be the ones to miss out. However, either a draw between Wales and Ireland or between Croatia and Ukraine will save the Slovaks (on goal difference). Slovakia's problem would be positive results in both games. These two games should be corkers as a draw is no good to Ireland or Ukraine, and possibly not to Wales or Croatia either.

If both games are drawn then it becomes a case of which game is the highest scoring to determine who, of Croatia or Wales, go out!! If Croatia and Ukraine draw by scoring one more goal than the draw between Wales and Ireland, then it comes down to the fair play record of the Welsh and Croats. Simples [:)]

Your latest table seems better.

The previous table could not be right even though the date was a bit back. Sweden's latest match ( a few days ago) was against a team that didn't count (last placed Luxembourg). So Sweden only had one match left against a team that counted (Playing against Netherlands tomorrow). Therefore Sweden must have had 7 matches played that counted and not 6 as your table showed.

Sweden should have had 7 matches played before the Luxembourg win with 13 points on the table that I said was wrong and since that match doesn't count the stats could not have changed. Sweden should have had the same stats in both tables. And, to me, it looked like there were other errors as well.

Ah, the silly part was beating Northern Ireland. What was the point in that? Our national team sincerely said that the matches against Azerbadjan were "really hard matches". If matches against Azerbadjan are considered hard, they have no place competing in a championship anyway, so I prefer better teams to go ahead.
