Question

Post by slaphappypappy »

How do I install TOTH to my new computer?
I downloaded it to my old one so I don't have a cd and I don't have my new one hooked up to internet.
I'm anxious to try it on an i5 cpu.
Can I still get a cd?

If you can't copy and zip that file, then you're going to have to find some Internet somewhere. If it's a tower, just order up a wireless internet card I think they're about $30....GP

Thanks GP

It's one computer protected evidently as I get "There is a problem with your serial number as configured. Please contact our help desk."
I sent my problem to Matrix and said I have a copy of purchase email and product key.
We'll see what that brings.

No problem. On a side note, I always buy games with the disk. It's just better that way....GP

Matrix Games support led me to their download page where I downloaded TOTH again, transferred the file to USB and installed it on new computer, entered my Key Code and I'm in business!
Now when I get time this weekend, I'll try out some of the scenarios that were experiencing slowdown on my old machine and see if there is any improvement.

Well, there's good news and bad news.
The good-I played Slaughter at Prokhorovka and my delay times were only 2.31 sec at turn 4.
By turn 13 when reinforcements showed up, it was up to 8.46 sec. Still playable for me as I was getting 1 minute and above before.

The bad-Bottom half of turn 13 in the Russian Advance phase the game froze. I restarted from the last recent save, but same results. I also noted in the initial setup phase I was able to see some Russian units, so I restarted and it fixed that, but it leads me to believe I have a problem.
Since I haven't connected to the internet, I haven't checked for the latest drivers for my motherboard. Could that cause a problem?

I guess I'm going to use this new machine as a daily user, install an ethernet card, check for and install new drivers if available, then reinstall game.
What do the Gurus out there think?

It wont make a difference.[:(] Look at past posts and you will see we have been down this road before. Scenarios with lots of units and large maps run really slow after a few turns. The delay is directly dependent on the number of counters on the board. I consider my PC high-end and I can't play the campaigns in the Kursk DLC. I quit at about turn 30 when the delay is approaching a minute. Just be selective when picking a scenario and stick with the small to moderate size for starters. After a playing a few of the large scenarios downloaded from the site I'm convinced they haven't been play tested or the author would not have uploaded the file. Anyway, you will eventually figure the limits of your PC. Stick to that and you will have an enjoyable time because those scenarios with long delays aren't worth the frustration.[;)]
