What PC wargame or wargames have the old style combat system?

Post by aaatoysandmore »

Back in board gaming days one used to could have more that 1 unit attack at once in a combined effort instead of what seems today's standard of one unit at a time like say in Panzer Corp or any of the other simple games out there.

Are there any wargame(s) today that use the more than 1 at a time system where you can get like 6 to 1 odds with several units? Have the combat and then get to pick the unit that advances and perhaps gets to attack again?

No, monster games such as WitE or WitW or AEPacific, but, something more in the line of beginner or intermediate?

Also, must have an AI.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Since I recently got DC, my vote goes to the DC series, but other games can do that too. Like "Time of Fury" and "Fall Weiss" by Wasteland Interactive.

I like WI games but they have a number of games where support was dropped before all the main issues were fixed.

I would not pay full price for them base on that fact.

Good bargain going on atm though - Their Strategic War in Europe game just dropped to 2.99 USD on STEAM - that is quite a steal .... just downloaded and seems to run well on Win2k8 ....

Advanced tactics Gold allows combined attacks and you choose which victorious units advance.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have ToaW III just never played it. I'll take a look into it first and see how complicated it is.

Arrancourt, Crete, and Kasserine are three of the smallest TOAW scenarios and are recommended for starters.

I've never got beyond this, though I must have played Arrancourt fifty times.

Thanks Alti; I'll try them.

Thanks for the TOAW info as it has an eastern front scenario quite like Avalon Hill's Stalingrad from start to finish. Has a few more units than I want but it doesn't have all that detail of many of the others I've looked at.
