Collateral Damage

Post by Lawless1 »

Two DD's entering LA, struck mines, fortunately they didn't sink, just 76 flood damage, and some major sys damage

I know it is possible to hit your own mines, but didn't expect it in a major port, with an establish mine field
from the beginning of the war. Date is 18Dec41.

Bad enough with all those pesky IJN subs in the area.

Oh well, guess I'll have to replace the skippers

The IJN subs could have dropped those mines.

Things like this can happen but they are super rare.

77 flood damage sounds like a sub dropped type 88. They are nasty. Other IJN mines are kind of weak.

I have had my own ships plow into my minefields, but it has been under two conditions:

1. mines dropped in the ocean
2. mines at a freshly conquered port

I expected a chance of striking a newly laid mine, but in a major harbor, was a surprise [:@]

Two DDs enter a bar. There's already an AMc there, sipping on a Cuba Libre. ...
