Building fortifications and terrain

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Building fortifications and terrain

Post by OxfordGuy3 »

Just curious, is there any point in building fortifications in forests e.g. does it improve defense *at all*? Can you build fortifications in marsh and is this ever worth doing?

Does the fortification add to a Forest hex's defense values rather than just replacing them in that case? Also, does it allow entrenchment in Marsh terrain?

Also, does the extra entrenchment that an engineer-built fortification allows apply in all directions that the unit is attacked in, not just the fortified hex sides?

Obviously other fortification bonuses would only apply to attacks being made via hex sides that the fortification is present

Afaik the forts add their boni to the terrainboni(or mali in case of swamps or marsh; that`s definetly the case, it`s one of the first version upgrades of the patches). You will be able to entrench also in swamps or marsh, but afaik the entrenchementboni of forts and p.e. forrests don`t sum up; you will be able to upgrade forts in swamps and marsh by Air Defense as well.

Keep in mind that this is a WWII scenario, these forts will not be insuperable, but placing AD-Units and artillery in second line will cost any attacker time and ressources. Especially around Leningrad or El Alamein I find them very helpfull. I also prefer to fortify most of the possible attacking directions, and to buy all the engineers I could for Russia and Britain.

Nope it only protects from the side with the fortification. That is why you can change it to include all sides if you want to.

Hi

Just to clarify, the unit will benefit from the entrenchment level irrespective of where it is attacked from, but the direction of facing of the fortification means that it only receives defense bonuses applicable to that fortification if attacked from those sides.

Thanks, that's what I thought was probably the case. From air attack I assume facing doesn't matter, it gets the fortification bonus whatever, as long as at least one side is fortified?
