Big (!) size graphics ...

Post by Acehole »

As i reinstall "Gateway to caen" on my new pc , i am surprised by the size of the graphics ! with the same screen resolution in options for all my Cc's games , this one (maps,buildings,tanks..) are very big comparing with others CC ...i don't remember this visual on my previous pc .Is like a zoom was applied to the screen ,it's normal for you ? side effect with Windows 10 ? the game became very cumbersome to play ! thanks for tips or advice...

The graphics system was changed in Panthers in the Fog (the release prior to Gateway to Caen) to a 32-bit color and a higher pixel/meter resolution, to take advantage of modern display resolutions. If things are looking too large / the area of the map you see on the screen too small, try increasing the game resolution to a higher level.

In windowed mode (the default) the resolution of your display doesn't change (that is set by adjusting your Windows desktop resolution) only the size of the game window. So the graphics won't get smaller in windowed mode, but the size of the window will get larger (allowing you to see all of the battlefield.) I assume your Windows desktop resolution is already at the maximum, but if not you could try changing that to see if you can see more of the battle area that way.

Acehole, what's your DPI settings used in windows 10?

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

will show you and post it if you wish or just part of it

here's my report as reference

Operating System: Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit (10.0, Build 15063) (15063.rs2_release.170317-1834)

User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 144 DPI (150 percent)

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

Display Memory: 12230 MB
Dedicated Memory: 4062 MB
Shared Memory: 8168 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: TOSHIBA-TV
Monitor Id: TSB0108
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
Output Type: HDMI

default windows DPI is 96, mine and maybe even yours in higher, giving a larger and imo a better display when using the size of the screen / display that we use, windows 10 just enhances it and again imo makes it look better, not worse for the size, but yes it does look rather zoomed in that it did or does on the older games, but Gateway to Caen is same for me as i can still remember it from when i was on the beta on windows 8.1 mind you...

Image

looking at some steam screenshots, some version do look smaller than others

http://steamcommunity.com/app/368220/screenshots/

with some having less of a zoomed in look and more of the surroundings in the screenshot than others, so it does seem to me the area of focus is more zoomed in windows 10 maybe, will play around with some settings and see if this can be altered to give it more of a less zoomed in look in windows 10 and get back to you on my results

settings altered in windows 10 game install folder

Image

this setting i found worked best, if using the scaling by system instead of application only if i was using full screen in game as if using windowed as shown in the screen shot, it made it too small for me, so changed it as shown to run in windows mode (full screen with border) in game, and altered shortcut to override high DPI by app only, nothing else needs altering as i've tested them all.

alter it and see if that's any better for you, or post your DxReport and i'll go from there with more advice if needed

for me i can make the tanks around 10 to 15% smaller using the settings above, can make them smaller still if required, to around 20%, but as it also effects the txt / fonts used, the txt can be harder to see on some DPI and screen sizes, so for me on 1920x1080 anyway, the best regarding map size and tank size and txt being more comfortable to read, the settings used above for me anyway is more correct and more also to the default (how it was in windows 7 and 8) imo

but if anyone gives me a DPI or screen size, i can test some settings and give a opinion on what looks and works best for those settings.

settings of higher DPI and screen sizes of 3440x1440 to 3840x2160

Code: Select all

https://www.howtogeek.com/175664/how-to-make-the-windows-desktop-work-well-on-high-dpi-displays-and-fix-blurry-fonts/

windows 10 has some cool features that while were in most windows previous version, most of the time weren't used or hidden from most, or hidden deep and never seen.

your running the standard and default size DPI, which is 96 DPI

you shouldn't have to alter the box as shown [] override high DPI as yours in default

so run a game with it not ticked, then again with it ticked and see if it alters it for you and see which one you like best

same as the box for [] disable full screen optimization etc

run once with it ticked and once without, as that means 4 boxes, on and off, you may have a few combo's to try before you get one you like, as maybe you like one on and one off, as that's pc specific etc

good luck and you can always drops some screens shot on the outcomes to see so others can get the same help
