I read this to mean FA18's are deployed on the QE? [&:]

It could mean he took off from then USN CVN made a few circles around the group and then landed.
The FA-18 is not even in RN service so I doubt he would be qualifyied to fly it unless he was cross trained at some point as a NATO initiive.
He was probably in the rear seat and a passenger as a good will gesture.

UK Carrier Strike Group Commander Cdre. Andrew Betton OBE, and his team of RN officers, are embedded on USS George HW Bush. The purpose of the war game – called Exercise Saxon Warrior – is to give the Admiral and his team first-hand experience of controlling a carrier group. They’ve been directing all operations within the combined NATO group for the last ten days.

Captain Ken Houlberg, Chief of Staff to COMUKCSG said:

“The US Navy, out of huge generosity, given us the whole of their carrier strike group so that we can practice the command and control of a carrier doing these operations in British waters so that when HMS Queen Elizabeth comes into service later this year we will be well on the way to forming our own carrier strike capability.”
“‘Who controls the past,’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’”

Aboard the USS George HW Bush, CVN-77:

Aircraft armament specialist Simpson is affixing several bombs to an F-18 E/F Hornet belowdecks. With him is his section chief Garcia.

Simpson: "I don't understand why we're arming an alpha-strike with live weapons. Out here in the Atlantic? What the Hell is going on?"

Garcia: "Beats me. These orders just came down the pike this morning."

Simpson: "I saw them. Cluster munitions? For a strike bound for Highbury, London? Surely that can't be right?"

Garcia: "Yeah. I guess Cdre. Betton is a Hotspurs fan."

What the .......? Are we finally educating you Mr Chickenboy in the joys of civilised pursuits? I think you meant to say a 'Tottenham Hotspur fan' but hey, one step at a time eh?

Well done [:)] You'll be drinking tea with the vicar next while consuming cucumber sandwiches at the local village fete. Marvellous, what? [8D]

You made me a little nervous there for a minute. I was hoping that one of you fop lot would get my attempt at British soccer-related humour [sic]. [;)]

Did I get this about right? How could I have "Britished" this up a treat (other than to explicitly state the 'Tottenham' bit)?

Is the Highbury, London placement of Arsenal (Tottenham Hotspurs' arch-rival, no?) self-evident to most followers? [8D]

Hotspurs - that is such a colonial thing to say [:D]

We are known as:
Tottenham Hotspur (note no s),
Tottenham,
Spurs (note the s), or of course
Useless sacks of **** (if you are a fan of Arsenal [;)])

There have been Royal Navy pilots flying F-18s in the US Navy since before 2010. With the Sea Harrier retired in 2006 and the Harrier retired in 2011 the Royal Navy has had to lend its jet pilots to the USN to keep them current. I do remember hearing of one RN pilot who had spent at least 5 years flying the F-18.

I don't doubt RN pilots flying FA-18's. The article stated it was a "UK Carrier Strike Group Commander", with the QE operating in tandem. for all I knew they were getting flight time waiting (and waiting...and waiting) for F-35's. It was just confusing to me.

I thought I heard Spurs fans describe their team as useless sacks of something bad, or some other slurlike endearment. Am I mistaken or where they actually not fans of Tottenham? [&:] [;)]

Of course, here in San Antonio, Texas (USA) we love our Spurs. The San Antonio Spurs. A fine NBA basketball franchise. [8D]
