Named Divisions?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Named Divisions?

Post by Naughteous Maximus »

Just wondering why the Italians have all named divisions for the most part in the game, yet I am told if you name the SS divisions the same way, it will mess with the AI. How is that going to cause problems or is it because the P/C police is on duty. P/C = Political Correct for those just wondering.

The issue with the AI is not to do with named units. It is to do with changing the name of the units from the original setup. In some aspects of the code specific names are used to ensure correct behaviour. I'm pretty sure in WitW that some of the US Fighter Groups are coded by name so they change aircraft types historically. Changing names can cause problems so we advise not doing so.

However if you change the names because you want to command them (and the AI won't play that side) then there is no problem. When I mod some scenarios - like Britannia - I only change the side I want to play.
