Close Combat August Update & Screenshot 1

Post by Benedict151 »

Hello everyone
Thank you for your continued interest in Close Combat and of course your patience and I'm sorry we have not been as forthcoming with updates as you would have liked (and that we probably should have been, with the exception of Steve of course)

We would like to assure you that everyone has been working hard on Close Combat and that progress is definitely being made
I think its fair to say that spring and early summer were a little frustrating as we wrestled with many and varied line of sight issues that the 3D environment threw up and their myriad of effects on gameplay

However, during July we overcame the bulk of these and now have a game that we think all Close Combat fans will recognise - except its now in 3D - and we are pretty happy with where we are

The team have now moved onto working on the Campaign and Operation layers and are busy hooking up UI screens, improving functionality and adding and revising the many (many!) data sets needed to cover all the units, vehicles and weapons included in 'The Bloody First'

Having learnt the hard way I really don't want to suggest any dates but I think its safe to say that we can now see a beta version somewhere on the horizon

In the meantime we do have a couple of screenshots we would like to share with you. Please be aware that these are very much 'work in progress' and so do include various placeholder assets and textures etc.

Here is the first one and there are two more to follow

regards
Ben Wilkins

Thanks for listening to the fans, taking in the feedback and providing development updates. Good to hear that the team is moving forward and are overcoming the obstacles -The menu screenshot is looking really nice - familiar but in a new layout and with fitting color and design. ++++ Looks to be a good one this[:)]

Based on the empty space around the outside edges of the menu screen, are they still all hard coded in size?

I do not see the same thing. Just a darker borders. Many games use a similar thing. With people playing many different resolutions, usually, it is used this borders because it makes easier to create a image which it does not look badly when people choose a different resolution.

The UI screens scale with resolution but are designed to fill a central 4:3 box. The 'wings' expand as needed at different aspect ratios.

Zakblood - yes, there are UI tooltips that can be turned on/off.
