FAILED(draw_unit_layer_to_buffer): Unhandled exception

Post by oninohalibut »

Good Evening,

I have been trying to play the allies on version 1.08. I have tried the the 39 and 40 scenarios but as soon as I try and deploy the Soviet Engineer unit I get FAILED(draw_unit_layer_to_buffer): Unhandled exception error come up and then a CTD.

Please find attached a screen shot from the 1940 scenario with this error in and would be greateful if someone could have a look into this for me.

Thanks

Mark

might be an idea to also add a report as well, just in case its needed

tm.asp?m=4182351

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

Hi oninohalibut,

I've just run a quick test on my end but have been unfortunately not able to repeat it.

If I can ask the following to help me narrow it down, could you tell me if this is for one of the default campaigns or is this possibly a custom campaign?

If it is for a default campaign, could you try navigating to your installation folder and then the 'Campaigns' folder? From there navigate to the campaign subfolder, let's say for the 1940 campaign this would be the '_1940 Attack in the West' subfolder.

Open the 'campaign.ini' file and change this line to the following:

#CUSTOM_BITMAPS= 0

Save and close the file and then retry the turn in question (after relaunching the game) and let me know if it still occurs.

Thanks,
Hubert

I had a similar problem, and it was fixed with the change to CUSTOM_BITMAPS. I was using mods for graphics, but removed them.

I have been getting this error message off and on now for a few weeks. Some days I get it and other days I do not.
Sometimes after a reboot it goes away. The CUSTOM_BITMAP=0 does not seem to fix the problem. Please find attached
my dxdiag.txt file. Also not the update process tells me I am up to date, but I cannot tell what version I am
actually running.

Kind Regards,
Parra

Hi CetiAlpha6,

Can you confirm your version number as this will help guide me on the possible issue. The version number can be seen in game when you are at the MAIN MENU screen in the bottom right hand corner.

Also, if you can post the exact error message that will be helpful as well, especially if it is close to the one above but not exactly the same. If it is the same then if you can confirm that as well that will help.

the update process tells me I am up to date

I thought that was clear and it scares me that an "up to date" version can be different for everyone. But as you
suggested, mine is 1.10 according to the instructions you gave me.

And the exact message is the one on the subject line, exactly the same.

Kind Regards...

Hi Parra,

No reason really to think that an up to date version would be different for everyone, I just don't control the software that reports this message for the game, so just to be sure on my end that we are indeed talking about the same version, and that it is not possibly a false message, having the in game version number confirmed is helpful.

When you receive the error message, is it at a repeatable point or is it more random?

Can you also try updating your video card driver to see if this helps?

Yes, the error occurs during reinforcement phase, as soon as I select the unit from the list to place, it fails
with this error.

Can you send me a saved game turn where this is repeatable at support@furysoftware.com?

Thanks,
